A Touch of Šibenik for Monaco's Luxury Yachts

A touch of Dalmatia in Monaco's rich waters as a joint venture linking Šibenik and Finland continues to flourish.

As Darko Bicak/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 23rd of May, 2018, a Šibenik company will deliver its pontoon for the eighth year to glorious Monaco for the mooring of Monaco's numerous luxury mega yachts.

As was explained by Boris Miškić, director of the Sibenik company operating within the global Marinetek corporation, headquartered in Helsinki, everything will be set up by May the 29th, just after the Monaco's famous F1 Grand Prix race, which is set to be held on Sunday, May the 27th.

''We're not the cheapest''

It's single pontoon, and three pontoons were placed there eight years ago. Although the price itself remains a business secret, Miškić pointed out that the current project is roughly half the cost when compared to the previous one.

"What I said then, I'll repeat now, we aren't the cheapest, but we're the best and the most reliable, and customers recognise that," stated the director of the Šibenik company, which was formed back in 2005 as a joint venture between the NCP Repair Shipyard in Šibenik, and the Finnish Marinetek Finland Oy, which is otherwise the largest European pontoon and marine equipment manufacturer.

The corporation itself operates in 45 countries around the world, with twelve of them involved in production. Their operation in the popular Dalmatian coastal city of Šibenik is the one ''in charge'' of the Mediterranean and is the largest in the group. So far, they have delivered more than 2000 pontoons to 35 countries worldwide. The Šibenik company, which currently employs eirghteen people, is set to mark its 100th project in the Trogir marina in the coming days.

Miškić stated that mobile pontoons have become the standard thing in the construction and renovation of marinas, and they have a period (lifetime) of fifty years.

The specificity of this type of pontoon is that, aside from the outputting pipes for plumbing installations, the length of the whole pontoon has a channel of one meter in width, and a depth of 25 centimeters to accommodate larger size electric cables, since they will be attached to giant mega yachts exceeding lengths of forty meters or more. Just prior to this project for Monaco, Marinetek NCP delivered pontoons for marinas in neighbouring Montenegro, and they are already preparing pontoons for Canada, which are on a different level than European ones entirely, with some ninety tons of weight.
