Uber awards scholarships to students of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.

Zagreb, December 19, 2018 – Uber has awarded scholarships to students at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in Zagreb to help them with their further professional development and production of innovative solutions to various traffic-related issues in cities.

These scholarships are a continuation of the successful cooperation between Uber and the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb, launched in July of this year with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, underpinning their cooperation on the development of smart cities, as well as on issues of the growing global demand for shared mobility services and the importance for both cities and broader communities.

“For us here at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, it is very important to cooperate with the corporate sector seeing as that way, our students have a better insight into the labor market. Furthermore, cooperating with Uber provides our students with an opportunity to improve in the field of transport through concrete cases. This is particularly true of our students majoring in urban traffic, who are specializing in solving urban mobility issues. This cooperation will enable a direct transfer of knowledge, and the awarded scholarships will serve as additional motivation to students to further educate themselves,” said Tomislav Josip Mlinarić, Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.

Winners of Uber’s one-year scholarships are urban traffic undergraduates, Ivona Josipović and Patricija Kovačić, as well as their colleague from the graduate study program, Krešimir Kanižaj. They were all chosen because of their innovative final and graduate theses. Ivona Josipović was awarded the scholarship for her final thesis titled Usporedba Ubera i konvencionalnih taksi službi (A Comparison Between Uber and Conventional Taxi Services); Patricija Kovačić won the scholarship for her final thesis titled Uloga taksi prijevoza u sustavu javnog gradskog prometa (The Role of Taxi Transport in the City’s Public Transport System); while Krešimir Kanižaj got the scholarship for his graduate thesis titled Use of Mobile Applications in Urban Passenger Transport. The students defended their theses at the Department of Urban Transport Technology, under the mentorship of Marko Slavulj, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Urban Transport Technology.

“After signing the memorandum in July, we have continued our successful cooperation with the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences by awarding scholarships to their students. We are aware of the importance of exchanging knowledge between the academic and corporate communities, and we will continue working together on solving the issue of traffic congestion and improving the ways people move across cities, as well as on ride sharing and smart cities,” stated Davor Tremac, General Manager for Uber SE Europe.

The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences has positioned itself as one of the leaders in developing innovative solutions to the issue of traffic congestion in cities, while Uber, a global, innovative tech company, has been working on such solutions for years now, at the same time efficiently connecting users with providers of transport services.
