The “original” Zinfandel
Zinfandel, one of the few grape varieties that were thought to be native in the US, actually has roots right here in Croatia. Here the variety is called Crljenak Kaštelanski (by the village where the original vines were found Kaštela) or Tribidrag. Since the discovery, the Crljenak started taking over the vineyards in Dalmatia but the production still remains very small – around 20 producers now make wines from Crljenak grapes. Therefore, we are thrilled to see its finally available in the US.
