Uber Issues Official Statement Regarding Taxi Drivers Protest

Uber has issued an official statement regarding this morning's unannounced protest of about a hundred taxi drivers from various Croatian cities against Uber.

Uber has issued an official statement regarding this morning's protest of Zagreb's taxi drivers against Uber.

"We believe that blocking the city poses a threat to the citizens and infrastructure of the city. It affects citizens the most, but such unfortunate decisions can also cause damage to the city's business and economy, and they limit access to public services. The tourist season throughout Croatia is in full swing and blocking traffic in the cities does not show the image of Croatia we want foreign tourists to remember. This type of pressure represents a relic of bygone times - it is unacceptable nowadays, and it is not an example of a modern European state should function. We feel that problems can be addressed differently. Uber encourages movement in cities, and it is used by more than 100,000 people in Croatia because it is reliable, safe and easily accessible. Tourists from as many as 118 countries have used Uber in 2017 so far. We are currently in the middle of a constructive dialogue with government representatives, and we support the adoption of a new regulation that would give consumers more choice and promote competition."

Uber has also announced on their Facebook page that they are offering new users free rides up to 35 HRK if they use "SLOBODAKRETANJA" promotional code.

"Do you like to move around freely and without impediments? You don't like spontaneous breaks in traffic on city avenues? Order an Uber and get to your destination happily! If you're a new user, use the promo code SLOBODAKRETANJA and get a free ride of up to 35 HRK. Do you support freedom of movement? Share on! #slobodakretanja (freedom of movement)"
