Search Suspended for Missing Sailor Off Vis Island

Unfortunately, the sailor who went missing near Vis island was not found.

The search for a man that went missing on August 12 near Vis island was suspended on Friday, reports Vijesti RTL, on August 18, 2017.

The search around Vis island and Split waters was suspended since after seven days of extensive search the missing sailor (N.D.) was not found, The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure reported on Friday.

The accident happened just before the 4.45 P.M on Saturday, August 12, when the man fell from the sailboat as he was trying to adjust the sail. The sailboat, whose engine was damaged, was sailing under the Croatian flag. 

Maritime Police Split in cooperation with the Port Authorities of Split, Rijeka, Šibenik and Ploče were carrying out a search. Croatian Coast Guard was also involved with its Pilatus aeroplane and helicopter. Occasionally, even civilian crews joined in. The National Maritime Rescue and Rescue Center (MRCC Rijeka) also reminded that the Coast Guard planes flew every day back and forth above the Split Archipelago and the middle part of the Adriatic Sea, i.e. above the islands of Svetac, Brusnik, Biševo and Sušac and Vis Island. Unfortunately, the sailor was not found.
