Seven People Arrested Over Wildfire in Kistanje

By 22 August 2017

Several people were brought in Knin Police Station yesterday because they are suspected on suspicion of arson in Šibenik-Knin County (Kistanje), ŠibenikIN reports on August 22, 2017.

They were seen and reported by Krka National Park supervisor; five are minors, and one is 18. Four of them are inhabitants of Radići Donji village, and others are their relatives from Serbia who usually visit them in summer.

A National Park employee who works at the reception in Burnum was going home when she saw the young men on their bikes under the bridge at Kistanje-Knin-Oklaj junction. She thought they were acting suspicious, so she reported them to park rangers. Based on their description, the National Park supervisor concluded these were probably local boys and decided to look for them in the village, where they confessed to starting the fire.

They confirmed that the 17-year-old started the fire around 1 p.m. on August 21, and when it got out of control, they ran away.

The supervisor reported the incident to the police and they were brought into the police station.

The young men are allegedly known to the police, as well as the local Centre for Social Work.

However, Minister Božinović told the media that seven, not six, persons were arrested for causing the Kistanje fire, which means an additional person was arrested, but it has yet to be revealed whether this was connected to the same case, or if it was a separate arrest.
