Good news for Varaždin thanks to EU cash.
The contract for granting 14 million kuna in non-refundable funds to establish a unified emergency hospital reception at Varaždin General Hospital was signed on the 13th of June at the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 29th of June, 2018, in the presence Robert Vugrin, the contract was signed by Gabrijela Žalac, Tomislav Petrić, and Varaždin General Hospital's Director, Nenad Kudelić.
This is an extremely important contract on which Varaždin's general hospital will obtain a completely new facility, for which it has been waiting for more than a decade. The new faciliy is set to include an area for emergency hospital admissions and more.
''In spring next year, the construction of a new building worth 70 million kuna will begin. It will have a surface of about 3,000 square metres, and it will be located at the main entrance to the hospital. The second phase is to build a central operation block building with an intensive care unit, central sterilisation, transfusions and RTG units, which will connect the connecting corridors to surrounding hospital buildings,'' said Varaždin's deputy prefect, Robert Vugrin.
Recalling the need for a unified emergency reception, this part of the hospital should have initially been dealt with as part of the upgrade and reconstruction of the surgery building, but this project was unfortunately never realised. Varaždin's general hospital is the only second category hospital in Croatia (Category II - County Hospital of Regional Significance) that has no such reception to speak of.
''That will finally change. The total value of the project for the establishment of a unified emergency reception stands at 19.9 million kuna, out of which 14 million kuna are non-refundable EU funds, and the remainder of 5.9 million kuna will be secured from Varaždin County's budget from decentralised health care funds. For the day hospital (outpatient facility) and surgery project, worth 49.7 million kuna, the agreement on EU grants was signed in August last year. Given the fact that both contracts are now signed, we're moving towards the realisation of these projects which are a major step forward for healthcare in Varaždin County,'' added a satisfied Vugrin.
Instead of as many as seven different locations within the Varaždin hospital itself, patients will be received at a unified reception where diagnostics can be carried out.
On the ground floor of the new facility, there will be a combined/unified emergency hospital reception, while the first floor will have a day hospital (outpatient facility). For the delivery of patients in emergency vehicles, there will be a special entrance.
In addition to the the reception desk and the waiting room, there will be rooms for triage, resuscitation and isolation, emergency cases, and a room for the placement and removal of casts. Additionally, there will be room for interventions and small surgical procedures, as well as a room for telemedicine.
