Smoke in Cabin Sees Plane Land in Zagreb

By 16 September 2018

An unexpected visitor for Zagreb Airport.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 16th of September, 2018, on Saturday night at around 21:00, Zagreb's Franjo Tudjman Airport accommodated the unplanned landing of a WizzAir aircraft flying on a Niš-Basel route.

The flight was diverted to the Croatian capital due to smoke in the cockpit while the aircraft was flying over Austrian airspace. The plane landed in Zagreb at 21:02.

One member of the crew and two passengers requested medical assistance which was then provided to them on the spot owing to having breathed in the unexpected cabin smoke.

Half an hour after midnight, the aircraft flew empty to Skopje, Macedonia, where it landed at 01:36 the following morning. The plane's original passengers remained in Zagreb waiting for a replacement aircraft which arrived on Sunday at 07:20, taking the passengers safely to Basel, where they arrived at 08:30 that same morning.

According to a report from Avioradar on the matter, the aircraft in question was carrying 180 passengers.
