Taxi Market Liberalisation Supported by Four in Five Croatians

ZAGREB, October 14, 2019 - A survey conducted by the Digitalna Hrvatska association, whose founders include Uber, shows that four in five Croatians support and believe that the liberalisation of the taxi market was a positive move. Two in three respondents say that lower taxi fares are the biggest benefit of the liberalisation of the tax market. The respondents were also asked about the possibility of liberalisation of other economic sectors and 12% were entirely against further liberalisation, 32% said they would completely liberalise the economy, and 39% said they were in favour of liberalisation but with certain exceptions. Pasta Manufacturer Opens 38 Million Plant

ZAGREB, October 13, 2019 - A new plant of Croatian fresh pasta manufacturer Naše Klasje, in which over 38 million kuna has been invested, was inaugurated near Zaprešić, just west of Zagreb, on Saturday. The plant spreads over 3,000 square metres. The European Regional Development Fund co-financed the project with 15 million kuna. Wage Increase in Public Services of National Interest

ZAGREB, October 11, 2019 - The leader of the Association of Croatian Trade Unions (MHS), Vilim Ribić, said on Friday that a radical, double-digit wage increase in public services was a first-class national interest, assessing that there was 4.7 billion kuna available for that in the state budget. Croatia to Sign Declaration Creating European Blockchain Partnership

ZAGREB, October 10, 2019 - Croatia will sign a statement of cooperation establishing a European Blockchain Partnership, the government decided at its cabinet meeting on Thursday. The government endorsed the Declaration Creating a European Blockchain Partnership and authorised Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts Darko Horvat to sign the document. Blockchain technology enables distributed public ledgers that hold immutable data in a secure and encrypted way and ensure that transactions can never be altered. Contracts for Ston Ring Road and Access Roads to Pelješac Bridge Signed

ZAGREB, October 9, 2019 - Contracts for the construction of access roads to the Pelješac Bridge and the Ston ring road were signed on Wednesday by the government and the Strabag and Avax companies, concluding the tender procedure which was ridden with appeals, and now construction can finally commence. The Duboka-Šparagovići/Zaradeže section will be built by the Austrian Strabag company while the Ston ring road and the sub-sections Šparagovići/Zaradeže-Prapratno and Prapratno-Doli will be built by the Greek Avax company. World Bank Upgrades Croatia's Growth Rate for 2019

ZAGREB, October 9, 2019 - The World Bank (WB) has upgraded its forecast of Croatia's growth for 2019 mainly thanks to solid domestic demand while the growth rate is expected to slow down over the next two years due to a slower increase in household consumption and investment as well as due to weaker foreign demand. Croatia's growth is expected to pick up slightly in 2019 to 2.9%, the World Bank forecast in its Economic Update (ECA) Fall 2019 released on Wednesday, upgrading it from its June outlook by 0.4 percentage points.
