Supreme Court's Fimi Media Ruling: Sanader Gets 7 Years, HDZ Fined HRK 3.5m

ZAGREB, 14 October, 2021 - The Supreme Court on Wednesday partly upheld the verdict following the retrial in the Fimi Media corruption case, under which the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party was fined HRK 3.5 million while the former PM and HDZ chief Ivo Sanader had his prison sentence cut from eight to seven years. Sanader and his co-defendants were charged with siphoning around HRK 70 million (€9.3 million) from state-owned companies and institutions through the Fimi Media marketing agency into the HDZ's slush funds from 2004 to 2009. Croatian Tourism Association Expects Even Better 2022 Summer in Croatia

October 13, 2021 - Preparations are underway for the 2022 summer in Croatia after the 2021 season exceeded all expectations.  After the main tourist season and post-season results exceeded expectations, the Croatian Tourism Association (HUT) expects an even more successful tourist season next year, and preparations have already begun. Opposition MPs Urge Government to React to Energy Prices Hike

ZAGREB, 13 October, 2921 - MP Miro Bulj (Bridge) on Wednesday called on the Croatian government to adopt measures that would offset the rise in energy prices and proposed that the the state-run power company HEP be instructed not to turn off electricity to poor citizens during the winter. Media Committee Meets Again, Proposes Robert Šveb for Post of HRT Director

Croatia's Daily Coronavirus Cases Highest in 5 Months

ZAGREB, 13 October, 2021 - In the last 24 hours, Croatia conducted 10,218 coronavirus tests, and of them 2,022, or 19.8%, have turned out to be positive, the country's COVID-19 crisis management team reported on Wednesday. The new cases numbers thus exceeded the mark of 2,000 daily cases for the first time in the last five months. In the last 24 hours, the COVID-related death toll has increased by 27 to 8,829.
