September 15, 2020 - Good news for Croatian travelers looking to visit the Adriatic pearl this September, as Dubrovnik targets domestic guests in its new late-season tourist offer.  HRTurizam reports that the promotional activities of the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board titled "Late Summer in Dubrovnik" - "Dubrovnik, where the heart is", from September 15 to 30, includes discounts and benefits for visitors to Dubrovnik on numerous tourist services from several different categories: sights, museums, galleries, accommodation providers and caterers. In this way, they want to attract primarily tourists from Croatia, who top the tourist list in…

Croatian Aviation reports that British Airways has made changes to its flight schedule for October, and there was a further reduction on the London Heathrow - Zagreb line. Dalmatian Island Heritage: The Stunning Sipan Renaissance Palace in Sudjuradj

September 13, 2020 - Continuing the recent TCN tour of the Elaphiti Islands near Dubrovnik, a quite spectacular Sipan Renaissance palace to finish. The glory days of the Dubrovnik Republic must have been glorious indeed! Croatia has more than a thousand islands, and while it would be natural to assume that they are all very similar, nothing could be further from the truth. A few years ago I wrote an article to that effect called Croatian Islands: 25 Things to Know about the Gems of the Adriatic. (Photos by Taliah Bradbury) The oldest public theatre in Europe, the birthplace of cricket…

Social Distancing and Nutritious Living: Why Hvar Long Stays Make Sense

September 13, 2020 - It may be better known as a summer beach destination, but Hvar long stays are looking increasingly attractive in the corona era. As I have written before, one's perspective on the whole coronavirus crisis is heavily influenced on one's personal experience. Being locked down in the heart of New York City, with death all around, compared to life on a corona-free Dalmatian island are two completely different things.  I was fortunate to endure 63 days of idyllic lockdown on the island of Hvar, which I have to say was never more beautiful in the 19 years…

Booking.com to Close Split Office Amid Coronavirus Crisis

September the 13th, 2020 - Booking.com is, along with AirBnB, one of the most frequently used platforms for reserving private accommodation when going on holiday. Unfortunately, the leading company's Split office is set to close its doors as a result of the negative economic consequences caused by the spread of the new coronavirus. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has dealt a heavy blow to the travel and tourism industry on a global scale, and countries like Croatia, which rely very heavily on that industry as one of their most important economic branches, have been hit hard indeed. As much as 20…

Hotel Bozica on Sipan: An Elaphite Delight in Sudjuradj

September 12, 2020 - Continuing the TCN tour of the Elaphiti Islands near Dubrovnik, a slice of heaven on Sipan - Hotel Bozica in Sudjuradj.  I had forgotten how addictive the feeling was. A feeling so strong that it renders you literally immobile.  For hours.  The perfect waterfront terrace in Dalmatia, watching the waves gently lapping against the rocks under the gaze of yet another azure sky.  That tricky moment after a sumptuous lunch of fresh healthy products and - in this case at least - some quite sublime desserts.  If you don't move now, then the danger is you…

PHOTOS: Now is the Time to Visit the Brijuni Islands

Saturday 11 September 2020 - With a trip to one of Croatia's most spectacular National Parks coming at half price in September, now is the time to visit the Brijuni islands! A remarkable fish-shaped islet, part of the Brijuni islands © Croatian National Tourist Board For a long time, beautiful Brijuni wasn't for the likes of you or me. Visit the Brijuni islands? I think not. The picturesque and peaceful collection of islands and islets were reserved for the select few. Once an exclusive beach resort catering only to the richest in Austro-Hungarian society, then the private summer residence of…

The Jewels of Hvar Town: A Guide to the Paklinski, Pakleni Islands

September 12, 2020 - Have you ever visited Paradise? Take a tour with a closer look at the Pakleni Islands which lie invitingly in front of Hvar Town.  The debates start with the name. Is it Paklinski or can you call them the Pakleni Islands?  Do they translate as Hellish Islands (in which case, I wonder what real Hell looks like...) or do they take their name from the archaic word 'paklina', which means 'tar' and refers to the pine resin which was used to coat ships? And the biggest debate of them all - which is the best of…

One Minute Ludbreg: Inside the Miracle Chapel at Batthyany Palace

September 11, 2020 - Continuing our tour of Croatia's miracle town in the TCN One Minute Ludbreg series, a visit to the Batthyany Palace chapel where the Eucharistic Miracle of Ludbreg took place in 1411. One of the most fascinating things about travelling around Croatia is discovering what lies behind the doors of buildings. I first started to notice this in Diocletian's Palace many years ago. So many seemingly similar and innocuous-looking doors, which were actually guarding secrets to historical treasures, stunning buildings and unique attractions. Never has the phrase 'never judge a book by its cover' been so true. …

German Red List: Two More Croatian Counties Added to Red List

September 10, 2020 - According to Večernji, the German red list became 'richer' for another two counties. Last night Germany declared the Dubrovnik-Neretva and Požega-Slavonia counties as risk regions due to the increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection. As previously reported, Germany had already considered adding these two Croatian counties to the red list, along with the City of Zagreb, for which the Germans also point out that there are a large number of cases of coronavirus infection. But for now, Zagreb has not been put on the red list. Germany has been closely monitoring the epidemiological…
