HTZ: February Seeing Fewer Tourist Arrivals from China

ZAGREB, February 6, 2020 - Croatia is seeing a noticeable decline in tourist arrivals from China in the first week of February as a result of comprehensive and strict measures by Chinese authorities to contain the coronavirus outbreak, and travel demand is expected to stabilise in the coming period, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) told Hina. Some 4,400 Chinese tourists have visited Croatia since the start of the year and generated 7,600 overnight stays, which are respective increases of 49% and 19% compared with the same period in 2019, HTZ director Kristjan Staničić said. "This growth is as planned and…

New Tourist Facilities at Slavonia's Amazing Papuk Nature Park

The renovation and equipping of the "Pannonian Sea House" is part of the praiseworthy "UNESCO Geopark Geostories" project at the incredible Papuk nature park, which was once in the middle of a sea. As Poslovni Dnevnik/Marta Duic writes on the 6th of February, 2020, sixteen million years ago, Papuk was an island in the Pannonian sea inhabited by rhinos and being swum around by a now extinct species of shark. This is extremely difficult to imagine today, given that the modern day Papuk nature park is located in Slavonia, far from any sea. Numerous fossils of now extinct living organisms,…

Zagreb, the New Affordable Medical Tourism Hot Spot and Holiday Experience

February 6, 2020 - The Zagreb medical tourism story is gathering pace, with a surprising amount of world-class healthcare options to choose from, and savings to more than pay for the flight and holiday. What is the best tourism promotion story you know about Croatia? Is it an unforgettable holiday on an idyllic island? A fortnight on that perfect beach, or a tour into the wondrous and often undiscovered world of Croatian history and heritage? Having followed Croatian tourism for almost a decade, I can think of no better promotion story about Croatian tourism than the one about the American…

Why are There No Winter Budget Flights to Split? Shall We Try?

February 4, 2020 - Croatian tourism chiefs keep talking about 12-month tourism, and the Dalmatian capital has enough content to support it, so why are there no budget winter flights to Split? Shall we try?  When I first moved to Dalmatia back in 2003, I found Split in winter a little creepy.  Walking through Diocletian's Palace after dark was a depressing experience, nothing was open, and I had the feeling that I might get mugged on some occasions. I remember the fabulous ladies from Zinfandel and B7 telling me that when they opened the first licenced hostel around the same…

Three Reasons Why You Should Visit Zavratnica - The Blue Gem of Velebit

February 3, 2020 - Plitvice National Park, Dubrovnik, or islands Brač and Hvar have become sights synonymous with Croatia. Alas, they have also become overused, turned into cliches, and have, sadly, lost their initial appeal and dare I say, even some beauty, because of tourism and greed. But, there is a lot more to Croatia than a few locations tourists mostly visit. Despite its small size, the country of thousand islands has a few more tricks up its sleeves. This one is snuggled way up in the interior, in the shadow of the largest Croatian mountain - Velebit.  Welcome to…

Rijeka 2020 Opening Party: Bold, Controversial, Brilliant - a Foreign Resident's View

February 3, 2020 - The Rijeka 2020 opening party was quite a show on so many levels. A detailed look at an unforgettable 24 hours in the Port of DIversity through the eyes of a foreign resident.  Before we get started on what was an incredible 24 hours in Rijeka for the opening party as the new European Capital of Culture, let's agree on one thing - whatever I write is going to upset someone in Croatia merely because of the topic. And my appreciation of the events of Saturday are very different after living here for 17 years than…

Zadar Airport Projecting Over One Million Passengers in 2020

February 3, 2020 - Zadar Airport will be the fourth in Croatia to reach one million passengers in a single year. Ex Yu Aviation reports that thanks to considerable growth in traffic, which Zadar Airport projects this year, the coastal airport will begin construing a new terminal this year, worth 50 million euro, financed from its own funds.  “The 2020 summer season schedule justifies our efforts to expand capacities at Zadar Airport, which will result in an increase in the level of service and create preconditions for further growth,” said Zadar Airport General Manager Klišmanić said.  But just how many passengers…
