Today, there's a second part to that news, one that Chinese tourists should know about, so we're helping spread the word about it, as the Croatian Interior Ministry website mup.hr reports. The eight Chinese police officers were given four mobile phones and dedicated lines, where they will answer in Chinese and help with any questions and make…

57,000 Travelers at Split Airport, 75,000 at Ferry Port this Weekend

While the crowds thin in other Dalmatian hotspots this summer, Split is experiencing quite the opposite - and no, it’s not just because of Ultra Europe.  While Split’s accommodation may be bit emptier this season due to, well, a surplus of private accommodation, the city is anything but. This weekend, more than 100,000 passengers from all over the world will travel through the Split Airport and Ferry Port, with projections that many will stay in Split and not continue their travels to other parts of Dalmatia, Splitski Dnevnik reports.  Mate Melvan from Split Airport said that a total of 112…

Gin Tonic Tuna, Vegan Burger at Lucullus, Hvar's Most Innovative Menu

July 14, 2019 - Gin & Tonic tuna, one of the many highlights on Hvar Town's most innovative menu at Lucullus. I get asked a LOT for restaurant recommendations on Hvar. I actually rarely eat out on the island these day, and with so many places opening, I am not really up to date with the latest, but my number one recommendation is always the same. Especially for guests looking for a little variety to the traditional Dalmatian fare.  It is not the cheapest restaurant, nor the most expensive. There are fancier restaurants on Hvar, and plenty that are not…

FT Meets Anthony Bourdain: Croatia Next Big Foodie Destination

July 12, 2019 - A meeting of minds between the Financial Times and the late, great Anthony Bourdain, who concluded the same thing 8 years apart - Croatia is the next big foodie destination “This is world-class food, world-class wine, world-class cheese. The next big thing is Croatia,” enthused the late chef Anthony Bourdain when he first visited the country in late 2011. “If you haven’t been here, you’re an idiot.” Bourdain’s surprise at the gastronomic riches of Croatia was perhaps understandable. For thousands of years, the region had it all: salt production along the coast, started by the Liburnians…

Event of the Summer? Klapa Samoana from Samoa Live on Top of Hvar

A really special night on the top of the island of Hvar on July 15, 2019, as Samoan singing sensation Klapa Samoana make their way from the Pacific to the peak of Croatia's premier island.  It is one of those unlikely cultural stories - a group of Samoan singers performing traditional Croatian songs a cappella exactly like a Dalmatian Klapa group. But Klapa Samoana not only are the only Samoan klapa singers, but have also won the hearts of millions of Croats with their renditions of Dalmatian classics during last week's world cup. They even have a town square named…
