Days of Croatian Tourism: How Were the Finalists Chosen?

October 31, 2018 - The recent Days of Croatian Tourism event on Hvar was attended by almost 2,000 Croatian tourism professionals. TCN has had lots of feedback to our articles on the winners. The Croatian National Tourist Board has kindly explained the methodology behind the nominations.  Last week TCN attended Days of Croatian Tourism on Hvar, the most important awards ceremony in the Croatian tourism calendar, and an event we have been examining in greater detail in the last few days. As very little is usually written in English about the Days of Croatian Tourism event, there has been considerable…

Sailing in Croatia: Inside the World of Luxury Cruising on the Adriatic

With autumn colours being dusted across the country, it seemed a perfect time to sit and reflect over the past summer and in particular, a very unique travel itinerary of sailing in Croatia.   There has been a lot of talk lately about whether Croatia is still a worthwhile travel destination, with many stating that the inflated prices, no longer match the offer and service. The frustrations from the summer – from visitors and vendors alike are interestingly being held alongside conversations of whether Croatia can be a 365 Destination. Working in the travel industry, my experience of summer and of…

Stari Grad on Hvar to Ban New Hostels Says Mayor Antonio Skarpa

In Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, it will no longer be possible to construct new hostels or turn existing buildings into hostels. The decision was made by a revision of the local spatial plan, making the town one of the first in Croatia to more seriously focus on the issue of tourism management and the development of local accommodation capacities, reports Jutarnji List on October 31, 2018. Therefore, there will be no new hostels in Stari Grad. Such facilities usually attract guests who stay for a shorter period and spend considerably less money. They will still have available…

Suncani Hvar Adriana Named Best Wellness Hotel in Croatia

More recognition for Suncani Hvar Hotels at Days of Tourism 2018, as Hotel Adriana wins the Best Wellness Hotel in Croatia award on October 25, 2018.  It has been quite a year for the island of Hvar. Just six years after celebrating the 400th anniversary of the oldest public theatre in Europe, built way back in 1612, Hvar is this year celebrating another European first in 2018 - 150 years of organised tourism in Europe, following the founding of the Hvar Health Society, on May 15, 1868.  So it was somewhat fitting that Hotel Adriana, just a few metres down the…

Ilan Geva Helping Croatian Health Tourism: Bagatin Workshop, Crikvenica Conference

October 29, 2018 - The Croatian medical tourism story continues with one of the leading global health travel experts Ilan Geva visiting Zagreb and Crikvenica next week.   I am quite new to the Croatian medical tourism scene, despite having covered tourism in Croatia for a number of years, and the more I investigate, the more excited about the possibilities. Ferries in Dalmatia When the Sun Don't Shine: Vela Luka to Split (VIDEO)

Ferries in Dalmatia. Gliding through a millpond, a gentle breeze through your hair under perfect blue skies, gliding along the islands and mainland of Croatia's Adriatic coast.  That is the romantic summer version of taking ferries in Dalmatia (and much of rest of the year too).  But when the weather turns foul an a storm is brewing, it takes on an altogether different experience.  There is some very severe weather in Dalmatia at the moment, and the other side of ferries in Dalmatia was captured by Index.hr reader Andrej Pavicic, who captured yesterday's ferry from Vela Luka on Korcula to…
