Photo of the Day: Komiza from the Air

The island of Vis is undoubtedly one of Croatia's most beautiful, and its somewhat more isolated status has meant that it has perhaps preserved the feeling of The Mediterranean as it Once Was better than other islands.

A closed military island until 1991 and a little harder to reach than more popular islands such as Brac and Hvar, Vis has a fascinating history, with a special connection to British military history over the centuries. There are only two sizable towns of note, the town of Vis and Komiza, seen here from the air, and for many one of the most picturesque of all Dalmatian stone coastal towns.
