Photo of the Day: Fortress on the Delta

Sisak fortress or Old Town Sisak is a fortification in the south-eastern edge of Sisak town south of Zagreb. It was built on the strategic location near the delta of the Kupa River into the Sava River and is mostly naturally protected with water.

The fortress was built in the 16th century by the church rulers from Zagreb to protect their properties in the Pokupje area and Croatian territory from constant Turkish assaults.

The military crew was under the command of the church, while the king’s army was not allowed access. Today the fortress is a monument of the highest category, housing the Sisak Town Museum.
