The World Rowing Federation has declared the Sinković brothers the best rowers in the world.
HRT announces that another great recognition has arrived in the hands of the European, World and Olympic champions Martin and Valent Sinković. Following the selection of the World Rowing Federation (FISA), the brothers were named ‘Best Male Crew in 2016! If we also recall, FISA last year named the Sinković brother’s coach, Nikola Bralić, as the world's best coach.
Confirmation of this three-year domination by the Sinković brothers has them unbeaten in all competitions, which is certainly an absolute benchmark in the history of the sport but also a crown to many years of hard work.
The FISA awards for the best in 2016 are awarded in five categories: best male and female crew, the best para-rowing crew, the best coach, and a special award for contribution to rowing as a sport.
Top rowing crews and coaches are nominated by fans of rowing and the media, with the finalists then chosen by the FISA Council. In the competition for best men's crew of the year, the Sinković brothers found themselves in competition against France, New Zealand and Switzerland.
“We have received many medals and awards in our career, but this is particularly special to us because we were nominated by our fans, the public and the media. This will surely motivate us to be just as good, and even the best in the new discipline for which we have decided - coxless pair,” said the brothers after the proclamation of this year's laureates.
The awards ceremony will take place in Vancouver on 28 January, 2017.
