Split Half – Marathon, the Race for Champions

By 28 February 2016

The Split Half-marathon was run on Sunday, February 28, 2016, with 1500 participants from 30 countries.

It was a great day for Split, with some 1500 people running through streets of the city, and it was a great way to promote Split as a sport and tourist destination. It started on Riva, and is ran throughout the streets, Lora harbor, through Marjan forest, and back to Riva for the finish.

There were many categories involved, for all the generations, and amateur runners and professionals alike, we will mention that the fastest were Hungarian runners, Laszlo Gregor in the men category, and Zita Kacser in the female one.

The story that took all the hearts is one by Jakov Vlastelica, a young man who suffered major injuries parachuting in the past. He was in a coma for a while, but on Sunday, he ran the race, and wearing his starting number 1950 in memory of his late friend, Torcida’s legend Pave, he went through the finish line with a flare in his hand.

Congrats to all, and hope to see you next year in Split.
