June 21, 2022 - It's the first day of summer, which can only mean one thing - we need to find the best places to cool off in Split. And one foolproof lunch spot that never disappoints? Riva favorite Brasserie on 7.
The summer solstice has hit Split as we celebrate the official start of a new season, though with the busy crowds in the city center since Easter weekend and temperatures hitting 30 degrees Celsius for what feels like months, summer never felt too far away this time around.
As we welcome back travelers from all parts of the world with tourism in full swing, we are reminded of the record 2019 season before the pandemic rattled our adventures. Our only issue now is finding a sanctuary in Split to kick back, cool off, and indulge - but Brasserie on 7 is perfect for just that.
While it may be situated on Split's most famous street, this Riva favorite continues to impress year after year, with standout menus crafted by French American Executive Chef Alexandre Ange. And this summer is no different.
We already know all about the meal that made Brasserie on 7 famous - brunch. But with eggs benedict, brioche french toast, and shakshuka on the menu, we're not surprised. Brasserie also ensures options for guests looking to stay healthy on holiday, with acai bowls, yogurt and homemade granola, and 100% fresh fruit juices to keep you glowing and going in the summer sun.
The lunch and dinner menu honors local produce and modern takes on Dalmatian classics to add a touch of flair to your fare. The decadent prawn tartare is dressed with wasabi mayo, red pepper coulis & toasted nori, while the tangy and refreshing endive & citrus salad cools your palate with grapefruit, orange, red onion, and radish.

The Seafood Risotto standouts with a scampi bisque, prawns, clams, squid & parmesan, and the Smoked Fish “Carbonara” uses Adriatic fish, cream & parmesan to up an all-time classic. Those wanting to stick to the more authentic side of Dalmatian cuisine can enjoy the clams 'buzara', market fish, or grilled octopus.
And for the meat-eaters in the group? The 45-Day Dry-Aged Rib-Eye is adorned with roasted cauliflower, capers, almonds & black truffle bearnaise, and the Duck Confit is plated with gingered potato, roasted peppers, arugula & honey-mustard vinaigrette.
Chef Alexandre Ange also designs a weekly menu in addition to the la carte lunch and dinner dining, which evolves depending on what’s in season and available. Don't forget to check in with the waitstaff to find out what’s on this week!
And we haven't even gotten to the desserts...

May 24, 2022 - A Hajduk fan zone will be set up on the Split Riva with a large LED screen for the Croatian Cup final against Rijeka on Thursday at Poljud.
Due to the exceptional interest of the fans for the SuperSport Croatian Football Cup final, HNK Hajduk decided in cooperation with its partners and sponsors, Radio Dalmatia, Karlovačko, and SuperSport, to organize a fan zone which will be located on the Split Riva on Thursday.
The sports and entertainment event called "I can't do anything else but love him..." starts on Thursday at 11 am. Hajduk invites all fans to visit the fan zone and have fun with an exciting entertainment program that includes music performers, surprise guests, food, an amusement park, attractive gifts, and prizes that attendees can win by participating.
The SuperSport Croatian Football Cup final between Rijeka and Hajduk starts at 7 pm.
"For all those who failed to get a ticket for the Croatian Cup final, a joint viewing was organized on a large LED screen that will be placed at the bottom of the Riva.
The youngest will be delighted by our official mascot Rico, who will hang out with children from 11 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 6:30 pm.
Join us on the Riva, enjoy the spectacle, and support Hajduk in the final of the Croatian Football Cup," concluded Hajduk in their announcement.
Hajduk finished the 2021/22 HT First League in second place with 72 points. While they fell short of the title this year, they still have a chance to win a trophy this season in the Croatian Cup final against Rijeka on Thursday, May 26. Hajduk and Rijeka will meet at Poljud at 19:00. The last Croatian Cup title Hajduk won was in 2013. They lost to Dinamo in their last Cup final in 2018. Dinamo won the Croatian Cup last season, while Rijeka was the winner in the two seasons prior.

ZAGREB, 1 May 2022 - After a two-year break caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Mass will be served on the occasion of St. Domnius' Day in Split by the Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia, Giorgio Lingua, on 7 May.
The religious service will be preceded by the traditional procession through the city centre, the authorities of that Croatian coastal city said recently.
From 28 April to 7 May, masses, sermons and spiritual music concerts are being held in Split in honour of the city's patron saint, the city administration said.
Events marking St. Domnius' Day started as early as 15 March with a boccia tournament, with matches played every Saturday, and they will end on 15 May with a race of rowing legends of Oxford, Cambridge and Split in the city's port.

September 24, 2021 - The 19th Sv. Duje Regatta is back after being postponed due to the coronavirus in May. This weekend's spectacle will feature the always traditional Oxford, Cambridge, and Split legends race and a rematch of the Sydney Olympics rowing final in 2000 when Croatia won bronze and Great Britain gold!
The 19th edition of the International Rowing Regatta Sveti Duje was announced in the festive atmosphere of the Meštrović Gallery, reports Dalmacija Danas.
Ivo Cagalj / PIXSELL
Representatives of organizers and partners attended the press conference: Tomislav Kilić, Vice-Rector of the University of Split, Igor Maretić, Head of the Split Department of Sports, Ozren Kovačević, Director of Key Clients of Le Meridien Lav Hotel, Tomislav Aljinović, Business Center Director Central Dalmatia - OTP bank, Luka Grubor, member of the organizing committee, Oxford legend, Sydney gold Olympian, Rob Baker, head coach of Cambridge via video message and Nikša Skelin, president of the Dalmatian Rowing Federation, member of the organizing committee, Pirate legend, bronze an Olympian from Sydney.
The main event of this year's Regatta will take place on Saturday, September 25. The central stage will be Split's Riva, which will host three rowing races. At 11:00 am, the legends of Oxford, Cambridge, and Split will begin. The student race of the University of Zagreb and the University of Split is scheduled for 11:30 am. As a highlight at noon, there will be a replay of the Sydney Olympics final in 2000, when the gold and bronze Olympic teams will row on the Riva - the eights of Great Britain and Croatia!
The legendary Luka Grubor, who will temporarily replace his business suit with a rowing suit on Saturday, was pleased to announce the Regatta:
"A particular focus in the edition of this Regatta will be on the races on the Riva with an additional duel between Split and Zagreb, which will enrich the racing program. But also, that date coincides with the 21s medal-winning anniversary of the Croatian and British eights at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, where we will have a kind of replay and rematch of that final. I don't know where in the world the Croatia eight have ever gathered again, let alone with their rivals in Sydney.
Also, Split has always been a meeting place for top rowers and top academics and professionals. So far, this has been happening on an informal level, and now I would like to make a Meetup, a conversation about how sport shapes careers, learn from each other to enable a continuous transfer of knowledge to new students and new generations of athletes."
Celebrated Split Olympian Nikša Skelin expects exciting matches on Saturday: “This year we will have a Regatta that will be specific because, in addition to racing on the Riva, we will have the anniversary of Olympic medalists, Great Britain's gold and Croatia's bronze.
It will be one rematch, settling debts that always hang among the rowers, even though we are all friends off the boat. I hope that time and the audience will support us and that we will make a rowing spectacle."
On Saturday, the Riva will gather the legends of rowing, teams that have won and are winning numerous European and world awards, all bound by an unbreakable emotion and love for rowing, Split, and Dalmatia.

Recall, Brasserie on 7 appointed French / American Alexandre Ange as Chef de Cuisine last month.
Classically trained in French cuisine, Alex has spent the past 12 years working in some of the top restaurants in France & the United States, including the famous L’Atelier in Paris, run by Chef Joel Robuchon (the chef with the most Michelin stars in the world). Alex made the move to Split, together with his family, with an exciting vision on how to expand and improve on the imaginative and inventive À la carte menu that B7 is already famous for:
“I strongly believe in using local ingredients and supporting Dalmatian producers. My vision is to bring our guests an exceptional and memorable dining experience by introducing a renovative food menu that satisfies the taste bud of local and international guests”, pledges Ange.
This spring, the new B7 Executive Chef will be introducing subtle changes across the menu, while using the very best produce Croatia has to offer.
“Delicious exciting changes are coming to our breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus - including vegetarian and vegan dishes, but we will let you discover them when you visit us at Brasserie on 7 in Split this season," invitingly says the front of house Ivan Rabadan.
For the last seven years, Brasserie on 7 has become known for its world-class breakfast in an iconic Riva setting, a casual upscale café vibe for lunch, and a refined coastal French-inspired Adriatic dinner to both tourists and locals alike.

December 29, 2020 - A look at the Split Riva flooded as hurricane-like jugo winds ripped across Dalmatia on Monday night.
Jutarnji List reports that gusts of the stormy south wind jugo, which raged across the Adriatic on Monday, caused waves several meters high, due to which maritime traffic was partially suspended.
The famous Split Riva could not even be spared, as scenes of it flooded were shared all over local media. The waves even reached the walls of Diocletian's Palace. Fortunately, the winds weakened overnight.
Around 9 pm, the peak of wind strength in Dalmatia was recorded. The strongest gusts were measured at the Star Village Mosor, located in the city of Split, where jugo had gusts up to 140 km / h.
On Monday night, these hurricane-like winds created waves on the open sea up to six meters high in the central Dalmatia area. They were between two and four meters in the coastal area, flooding the waterfronts in even more coastal towns. The meteorological station on Marjan recorded hurricane gusts in the Split area for several hours, the State Hydrometeorological Institute in Split said.
Waves also flooded the waterfront in Kaštel Gomilica, where water entered a house in its eastern part. Firefighters intervened and pumped out water, Kaštel Gomilica reported from the DVD.
During the day, all catamaran and most ferry lines were interrupted, and due to wind gusts and several-meter-high waves, the ferry that was supposed to sail from Supetar to Split and return to Supetar was postponed last night, the head of Jadrolinija's agency in Split Jelena Ivulić confirmed.
All catamaran lines that connect Split with the central Dalmatian islands were interrupted on Monday due to unfavorable weather conditions at sea.
Ivulić stated that the ferry lines Split-Vela Luka-Lastovo, Trogir-Drvenik Mali-Drvenik Veli, Sumartin-Makarska, and Sucuraj-Drvenik were also interrupted due to bad weather.
On Tuesday, the Adriatic is expected to be partly cloudy with occasional rain, locally abundant. The interior is partly sunny and mostly dry. There may be sleet and snow in the highest mountains.
A moderate to strong southwest and south wind will blow, with occasional gusts of wind on the Adriatic, and will weaken towards the end of the day. The lowest air temperature on the coast and islands will be from 7 to 11, and the highest daily from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius.
Unstable and changeable weather is expected in the coming days and occasional rain, which may be more abundant in some places on Wednesday. The wind will be mostly weak to moderate southwest and northwest, and on Friday, the south wind will strengthen again.

October 16, 2020 - This year, if the circumstances allow, the people of Split and visitors to the Dalmatian city will enjoy Advent, but without the famous holiday houses (kućice) on the Riva. A closer look at Split Advent 2020.
Dalmatinski Portal reports that since the event was first organized, the holiday houses on the Riva have been its trademark. However, for the 2020 season, they are no longer in favor because of the coronavirus pandemic.
"We chose the locations that are best epidemiologically covered, those where it is easier to create a controlled situation to meet epidemiological measures," says Ante Šunjić, director of Spalatum DMC, the city agency that issued a public call to participate in the Split Advent 2020/2021 event.
The Split Tourist Board has announced a call for offers for the ice skating rink in Đardin park.
This year, the houses will be located at that location and in front of the Art Gallery and the Croatian National Theater in Split. Šunjić claims that there will not be fewer of them than usual. They will be offered in the price range of 3,500 to 30 thousand kuna, depending on the location and activity.
"We are working as if everything will be fine, but we are also ready if everything is canceled at the last minute before the opening, as well as the possibility of work being stopped in the middle of the event. We explained everything in detail in terms of the tender. We will refund the money if Split Advent is canceled, that is, we will only charge the part that was used," says Šunjić.
Spalatum DMC said on Thursday:
In cooperation with the city of Split, the Split Tourist Board announced today a public call for a skating rink in Đardin and Spalatum DMC, a public call for renting houses located in Đardin, Kralja Tomislava Street (Gallery), and Gaja Bulat Square. The event should last from 28.11.2020. to 06.01.2020.
The public invitation for all interested parties and the draft and locations of the houses was published on the websites of the Split Tourist Board: www.visitsplit.com and Spalatum DMC: www.spalatum-dmc.hr.
Thus, in Đardin, there will be: a skating rink, a central stage, 9 catering houses, 4 trading houses, and 3 sweet houses with fritters, Kralja Tomislava Street near the Gallery is a location for 4 trading houses and Trg Gaje Bulata 2 catering and 2 trading houses. The plateau in front of Fina and Prokurative should have a children's train this year as well.
The event's realization will depend on the epidemiological situation, and a music program is planned that will be held daily on the central stage in Đardin. Still, to avoid large gatherings, several smaller music programs will be held. The organization of all parties and events will depend on the epidemiological situation and the Headquarters' recommendations.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, numerous events worldwide have been postponed, but also in Croatia. It remains to be seen what the situation will be with the number of patients in the world, Europe, and Croatia in the winter months. Given that the conditions and possibilities of holding certain events have changed significantly due to the pandemic, we are currently developing possible scenarios. It is necessary to take care of the health and safety aspect, and then of all other things that make up a particular event. In that sense, we are in contact with the competent authorities of the City of Split and the National, County, and City Civil Protection Headquarters.

August 8, 2020 - Now a symbol of the Split Riva, the first palm tree was planted on the famous waterfront promenade exactly 100 years ago.
HRT reports that the waterfronts of Croatian coastal towns and cities were regularly planted with mulberry trees until the 1920s. Mulberries not only grew quickly, but in the summer, their canopies provided pleasant shade, and in winter, bare and pruned, they let in light and warmth. However, as tourism developed on Croatia's coast, palm trees began to be planted.
And a fun fact? We learn today that the first palm tree was planted on the Split Riva exactly 100 years ago! Today, there are precisely 105 palm trees on the Riva. In 1930, 84 palm trees were counted on the Split waterfront, which were planted in several stages.
"They wanted to have a southern Mediterranean flair, so the idea of planting palm trees came to mind, and in 1910, the first palm trees were ordered from Vis," said Stanko Piplovic, an architect and art historian.
One of the two autochthonous European species, which are a rarity today, was among the first to be planted on the Riva.
"On the Split waterfront, we have five species of palm trees, more precisely from two families of European fan and feather palms. We have three species from the feather palm family, two from the silver family and a date palm among them," said Dr. Mirko Ruscic, director of the Botanical Garden in Split.
A few years ago, due to extremely high, almost tropical temperatures, dates were ripe for the first time!
Palm trees have become a trademark of Split, so it is not surprising that many citizens were worried about their health when the palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus parasite appeared, which is one of two species of snout beetle known as the red palm weevil, Asian palm weevil or sago palm weevil.
The people of Split are lucky to enjoy the 100 palms that decorate the Riva today!
