Dinamo Ranks Third in Developing Most Players at 2018 World Cup

Although they haven’t been considered an elite football club for years, Dinamo is still at the top in player development.

With the club football season behind us, in just a few days, all of our attention will be turned to the national teams competing in Russia at the World Cup this year. But before we completely put our beloved clubs on hold for the summer, there is something interesting we should mention.

A list of clubs who have developed the most players at this year’s World Cup, which will take place from June 14 to July 15, has been revealed, reports Gol.hr on June 9, 2018. This list is specifically for players who signed their first professional contract with the club. Surprisingly, or maybe not, Zagreb club Dinamo has found their name high on the list, ranking third with nine players coming out of their club’s development. In front of Dinamo is Sporting Lisbon with 12 players, and Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa with 11.

Former Dinamo players Šime Vrsaljko, Vedran Ćorluka, Dejan Lovren, Tin Jedvaj, Josip Pivarić, Mateo Kovačić, Luka Modrič, Milan Badelj and Andrej Kramarić make up the 9 players who will all have a chance on Croatia’s World Cup squad this summer.

Interestingly, Dinamo is ahead of Barcelona (8), Manchester United (6) and Stuttgart (6), and Lyon and Benfica (5). As far as player development is concerned, the current champions of England, France, Italy and Germany, and Europe, Real Madrid, don’t even make the top 10!

The club with the most players in the World Cup this year is Manchester City (16), followed by Real Madrid (15), Barcelona (14) and Manchester United (11).

The list of clubs that have developed the most players at the World Cup in Russia:

1. Sporting Lisbon 12

2. Deportivo Saprissa 11

3. Dinamo Zagreb 9

4. Barcelona 8

5. Defensor Sporting 7

6. Al Ahly 7

7. Manchester United 6

8. Stuttgart 6

9. Lyon 5

10. Benfica 5
