HDZ Officials Trade Accusations During Corruption Trial

ZAGREB, March 21, 2018 - Long-standing Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) official and former Speaker of Parliament Vladimir Šeks said on Wednesday at the trial of former prime minister Ivo Sanader and the HDZ in the Fimi Media case that he had never heard about slush funds or cash payments in the party, and blamed the then party secretary general Ivan Jarnjak for the trial against the HDZ, saying that Jarnjak accused the party to "remove any and all responsibility from himself."

“No Nepotism in Appointment of Culture Minister's Brother”

ZAGREB, March 19, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Monday that there was no nepotism in the process of appointing Tonko Obuljen, the brother of Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek, as the new head of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), explaining that Tonko Obuljen is in this line of business his entire professional life.

Official Fined for Conflict of Interest Heads Working Group for Conflict of Interest Prevention

ZAGREB, March 15, 2018 - Public Administration Minister Lovro Kuščević said ahead of the government session on Thursday that Josipa Rimac, who was fined for conflict of interest, and Dalija Orešković, who used to be at the helm of the Conflict of Interest Commission that fined Rimac, would both work on a new bill regulating prevention of conflict of interest which, according to him, would result in a good draft proposal.

Setback for Prosecution in Major Corruption Case

ZAGREB, March 12, 2018 - Zagreb County Court judge Ivan Turudić on Monday again rejected a plea bargain reached between the USKOK corruption investigation agency and the accused businessman Željko Žužić who, together with former Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Marina Lovrić Merzel, is charged with embezzlement.

Ruling Coalition MP Indicted for Bribery of Journalist

ZAGREB, March 10, 2018 -  The Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) on Friday issued an indictment against Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) lawmaker Franjo Lučić for offering a bribe to freelance reporter Drago Hedl  in a bid to persuade the reporter to stop writing about his companies.

No Improvement in Croatia's Corruption Perceptions

ZAGREB, February 22, 2018 - This year's Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index, which shows that in 2017 Croatia's score was the same as in 2016 (49), highlights that the majority of countries are making little or no progress in ending corruption, while further analysis shows journalists and activists in corrupt countries risking their lives every day in an effort to speak out.

Corruption Perception in Croatia Among Highest in EU

ZAGREB, February 20, 2018 - As many as 94% of respondents in Croatia believe corruption is widespread in the country, 58% think it has increased in the past three years, but 80% claim they did not experience or witness a case of corruption over the past year, according to Eurobarometer findings presented on Tuesday.
