Nobody Held Responsible for Slavonski Brod Water Pollution

ZAGREB, July 20, 2018 - Unhappy about the fact that criminal charges against an unidentified perpetrator for a water pollution accident in Slavonski Brod in March were dropped, Mayor Mirko Duspara on Wednesday told a press conference that the way the investigation into the incident was conducted was contentious because it did not incorporate the entire five kilometre route of the gas pipeline where the tests were conducted.

Croatia to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

ZAGREB, July 19, 2018 - The Croatian government on Thursday adopted final draft amendments to the Act on Transport Biofuels, which introduce the minimum target obligation of 0.1% for the use of advanced biofuels and propose the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years, as well as the penalisation of noncompliance.

Organic Farming in Croatia (Mostly) on the Rise

ZAGREB, July 2, 2018 - There were 4,023 organic farmers in Croatia in 2017, which is 477 more farmers or 14% more than in 2016, show data from the national statistical office (DZS). The number of organic farmers who also process organic produce stood at 357, a 14.4% increase.

Light Pollution in Zagreb Worse than in Vienna, Hong Kong

ZAGREB, July 1, 2018 - The light pollution of the sky above Zagreb, a result of the use of artificial light, is 16.9 magnitudes on average, and is bigger than the sky's light pollution in Hong Kong, according to survey findings published by the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering in Zagreb.

HEP to Produce 70% of Electricity from Renewable Sources

ZAGREB, June 28, 2018 - By 2050, the Croatian state-run power company HEP will produce 70% of electricity from renewable resources, the president of the HEP management board Frane Barbarić said on Thursday during a ceremony of signing an agreement on the construction of a solar power station on the island of Cres, the first in a series of planned power plants to be run on solar power and other renewables.

Raška Bay Hit by Oil Spill

93.5% of Croatia's Swimming Sites Rated as Having Excellent Water Quality

ZAGREB, May 29, 2018 - An annual report on the quality of swimming sites, released by the European Environment Agency (EEA) on Tuesday, shows that 93.5% of swimming sites in Croatia met the highest ("excellent") water quality standards last year.
