Prime Minister Defends Reaction to Water Pollution in Slavonski Brod

ZAGREB, April 5, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Thursday that the government had reacted promptly to the environmental disaster in Slavonski Brod and that an investigation would show how the water in area had been polluted by hydrocarbons. "We regret this incident. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the pollution, namely the cause of the oil leakage from the pipeline which the Crodux company was testing," the prime minister said.

Water in Slavonski Brod Still Unsafe

ZAGREB, April 4, 2018 - Environmental Protection and Energy Minister Tomislav Ćorić said on Tuesday that the latest results of the analysis of water from the eastern town of Slavonski Brod gave reason for optimism, but noted that the ban on using the water for drinking and cooking remained in force.

Criminal Complaints Filed over Water Pollution in Slavonski Brod

ZAGREB, April 3, 2018 - The mayor of the eastern town of Slavonski Brod, Mirko Duspara, and the local water utility Vodovod d.o.o. have filed criminal complaints with the county prosecutor's office against unidentified perpetrators over environmental pollution and endangering of life and property by dangerous public acts or means, County Prosecutor Mirela Smital said on Tuesday, noting that police had been instructed to investigate the incident that occurred on March 28.

Works to Connect Slavonski Brod to New Water Source Begin

ZAGREB, April 2, 2018 - Works to connect the eastern town of Slavonski Brod to the Sikirevci water supply plant began on Monday, with Environmental Protection and Energy Minister Tomislav Ćorić announcing that the people of Slavonski Brod and the surrounding municipalities would get drinking water in 15 days.
