Government Further Explains Pension Reform and Tax Cuts

ZAGREB, July 3, 2018 - The relevant cabinet ministers presented outlines of the pension reform plan and the second phase of the tax reform to the leadership of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party on Monday evening, Prime Minister and HDZ leader Andrej Plenković told the press after a three-hour meeting of the HDZ presidency and national council.

Tourist Tax in Croatia to Rise 25% in 2019?

ZAGREB, June 21, 2018 - The Tourism Ministry has proposed introducing, as of 2019, a higher tourist (sojourn) tax during the peak season, and under the proposal, the tax would be raised from 8 kuna to 10 kuna per person per night.

Further Tax Cuts Coming in January

ZAGREB, May 19, 2018 - Finance Minister Zdravko Marić said on Friday that the Finance Ministry was aware of the potential negative effect of Agrokor, but that risks were much more pronounced elsewhere, for example in Petrokemija and Uljanik, adding that solutions were being sought and the negative effects were being calculated in the budget while at the same time efforts were being made to protect public finances.

Taxes to Be Reduced from January 2019

ZAGREB, April 26, 2018 - A comprehensive pension system reform with the statutory retirement age being gradually raised to 67, further easing of the tax burden and removal of administrative barriers, the continuation of the merger of hospitals and the establishment of a national clinical hospital for children as well as new legislation on public sector workers' salaries are some of the measures in a 130-page National Reform Programme approved by the Croatian government on Thursday.

VAT Rate to Be Reduced?

ZAGREB, March 21, 2018 - Without tax exemptions and differential tax rates, standard Value Added Tax could (VAT) be reduced to 20%, provided that the pension system and public healthcare are overhauled in parallel, the head of the Tax Administration Zdravko Zrinušić said at a working lunch with the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) in Zagreb on Wednesday.
