Ex-Serb Paramilitary Arrested for War Crimes in Croatia

ZAGREB, May 8, 2018 - Stevan Budač, accused of war crimes committed in Croatia in the 1990s, was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant in Romania on May 5, Osijek County Court, which issued the warrant, said on Tuesday.

Zagreb Remembers Victims of 1995 Attacks

ZAGREB, May 2, 2018 - Wreath-laying ceremonies were held in the capital city of Zagreb on Wednesday in memory of civilians killed in the shelling of Zagreb on May 2-3, 1995 when Serb paramilitaries shelled Zagreb's centre with cluster bombs in retaliation for the defeat suffered in Operation Flash in western Slavonia the day before.

NGOs Warns about Non-Prosecution of War Crimes against Serbs

ZAGREB, April 27, 2018 - The Documenta non-governmental organisation and the Serb National Council (SNV) warned on Friday that war crimes committed during and after the Croatian army's Operation Flash in 1995 were not being prosecuted, crimes against Serbs were not treated as war crimes, and prison sentences were lenient. They demanded that the rights of civilian casualties of war and their relatives be recognised.

NGO Wants Convicted War Criminals to Be Stripped of Military Decorations

ZAGREB, April 15, 2018 - The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) nongovernmental organisation has called on Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović to strip persons convicted for war crimes "committed during Croatia's aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina" of their decorations and to apologise, together with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, to the victims of the Ahimici atrocity on the 25th anniversary of that crime.

Croatia Satisfied with Guilty Verdict against Šešelj

ZAGREB, April 12, 2018 - Croatia is satisfied with the guilty verdict against Vojislav Šešelj, handed down on Wednesday by the UN court in The Hague, but considers the sentence to be far too mild with respect to the acts committed and their consequences, the Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Ministry said in a press release.

Vojislav Šešelj Found Guilty of Deportation of Croats

ZAGREB, April 11, 2018 - Serbian Radical Party leader Vojislav Šešelj is responsible for the persecution and deportation of Vojvodina Croats by giving a hate-mongering speech in Hrtkovci on 6 May 1992, the Appeals Chamber of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT), the successor to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), said in a final verdict on Wednesday.

Serbian National Suspected of Involvement in Ovčara Massacre

ZAGREB, April 5, 2018 - Croatian police have filed a criminal report against a 45-year-old national of Serbia on the suspicion that, after the fall of the eastern town of Vukovar in November 1991, he was involved in the torture and killing of captured Croatian soldiers and civilians, including French national Jean-Michel Nicolier, taken from the Vukovar hospital to the Ovčara farm outside the city.
