ZAGREB, 14 May 2022 - The third edition of the annual event called "Tour Natur", which was held in the eastern Croatian city of Vinkovci on Saturday, brought together over 400 cyclists who toured the city to get acquainted with its past and its ongoing projects.
Commenting on the event that attracted the highest number of participants so far, Mayor Ivan Bosančić, who also participated in the ride, said that the route passed by the city's landmarks and through parts where EU-funded projects were being implemented.
The mayor announced the construction of 20 kilometres of bicycle lanes throughout the city.
The purpose of the Tour Natur event is to promote tourism and raise awareness of the beauties of scenery in the city.
Since last December, public bicycles have been available at three locations in Vinkovci as part of efforts to make the city cleaner and greener.
Before using public bikes, users need to register in the Nextbike application, scan the bicycle number and pay. Rental prices start at HRK 5 (€0.66) per 30 minutes, and the annual ticket costs HRK 200 (€27).
The value of the project is HRK 656,000 (€87,470), of which 40 per cent was provided by the EU through the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund and 60 per cent came from the city budget.

September 22, 2021 – From cycling and kayaking to hiking and an epic zip line, see the fantastic natural landscape that holds active Šibenik's thrilling offer.
When temperatures ease off, the Croatian coast welcomes a whole different type of guest. Spring, Autumn and Winter is the favourite time for sports enthusiasts and fitness fans to visit. And, few places on the Mediterranean have an offer complete like active Šibenik.
Outside of the peak season, the stunning nature that surrounds Šibenik is free from the bustle of visitors. Cyclists and runners speed by unobstructed. Maybe they'll pass a couple of hikers enjoying the same trails and spectacular views?

In the evenings, during their rest time, active Šibenik's guests have the city's best hotels, restaurants and charming Old Town almost to themselves. They share the cafe, bar and restaurant terraces only with Šibenik residents, relaxing once more now the city is returned to them.
Key to Šibenik's year-round appeal for fitness and sport fans is the city's unique landscape. No place in Croatia has natural assets like Šibenik. It is surrounded on all sides by a remarkable and startlingly varied topography.
Firstly, between Šibenik city harbour and the open Adriatic is a long waterway – St. Anthony's Channel. It is bordered on either side by two huge stretches of wild nature. Then, at the rear of the town, elevated up from sea level and next to Barone Fortress, the area of Šubićevac. Here, the entrance to the vast Šubićevac Forest Park, much of it an untamed, natural landscape. Thirdly, the vast Krka National Park, which lies just 10 kilometres north-east of Šibenik

An epic 2000 metre long waterway, St Anthony's Channel is both a gateway to the open sea and the entrance to the city for anyone sailing into Šibenik. It is 140 – 220 metres wide and is bordered on each side by near untouched Dalmatian nature. On one side, sheer cliffs for one wall of the channel. At the top, dense pine forests, walking, hiking and cycling trails. Also, the famous recreation site of Martinska.

On the opposite side of the channel, a very different layout of the land. Here, the pines are much lower and closer to the channel. Between the two, idyllic beaches - the best in Šibenik – line a pathway designated for running, walking and cycling. Those on bicycles drop down from small hills on the interior. After following the path at the side of the water, their ultimate reward is the spectacular St Nicholas' Fortress. On both sides of St Anthony's Channel you'll see incredible views of Šibenik, its harbour and the side opposite.

For those who prefer recreation on the water, St Anthony's Channel is perfect to explore by kayak. It's also one of the easiest ways to discover all of Šibenik's best beaches. Sticking close to the pine-sheltered coast, beautiful sailboats pass you in the centre of the channel, on their way to or from the city.

To visitors, Šubićevac Forest Park is the least famous of all Šibenik's recreational areas. A huge stretch of forestland, much loved by city residents, it rises above the city near Barone Fortress. The section of forest closest to the Šubićevac is designated as a city park. Within this part, you'll find a children's playground, specially designed to be accessible to all, including children with special needs.

Throughout this section, designated paths for cycling and walking. Running to the southeast, a much larger area of near untouched forest. Here, a wilderness ripe for runners or hikers to explore. It's worth seeking out the tiny Church of St Michael here.

Residents say the very best views of Šibenik come from Šubićevac Forest Park. Certainly, they are breathtaking.

A series of wide pools, fed by cascading waterfalls, Krka is one of Croatia’s best known and most spectacular National Parks. Famous water features like the unforgettable Skradinski Buk dominate the park's postcard images. You'll find it near the park's most southerly entrance, very close to Šibenik. But, beyond this eye-catching introduction lies a further 109 square kilometers of spectacular National Park to discover. The best way to experience it is by walking, hiking or cycling.

The park's hiking and walking trails give you the most thrilling views of this epic landscape and its wealth of flora and fauna. At the side of the trails, educational panels detailing the plants and animals you pass.

There are three circular trails: Skradinski buk (1900 m), Roški Slap (1360 m) and Krka Monastery (2100 m). A walking/cycling trail also leads to Skradinski buk from the Skradin bridge (3400 m), while from Lozovac, it is possible to take a forest trail (875 m) down to the park's longest waterfall.

The shortest trail is 300 m long and leads to Bilušića buk, while the longest trail is Stinice-Roški slap-Oziđana pećina and covers 8.5 kilometres. In total, there are 7 spectacular waterfalls to find as the river Krka descends through the park.
Breathtaking views on the cycling and walking routes © Krka National Park
Bicycling through Krka National Park is a journey of endless enjoyment. If your perfect cycling route offers stunning landscapes, then this is the place for you. But, if you're curious to learn about the park's cultural and historical heritage, then cycling also helps you unlock these park secrets.
Cycling © Krka National Park
No less than fourteen cycling routes crisscross the park. They are divided into three types:
Road route - perfect for racing bikes and dedicated cyclists
Trekking & family route - a mixture of paved roads and gravel paths, perfect for city bikes, mountain bikes, families with children and cyclists of any age and ability.
Mountain biking route – a mixture of gravel paths and unarranged forest paths, with sharp ascents and descents, designed for mountain bike enthusiasts in good physical condition and with advanced cycling skills.

On the northeast corner of the park, stretching across an epic canyon, one of Croatia's most thrilling ziplines. Flying from cliffs hundreds of metres above, so vast is the canyon that you can barely see the thrillseekers at the end of the first line. And, after that, there are still another two to go!

January 24, 2021 – Cycling tourism in Istria has long been recognised as a niche that can enrich the overall tourist offer, extend the pre and post-season, and be an additional motive for guests exploring new destinations on two wheels. To further improve and develop cycling tourism, Istria County is preparing a Study on the quality management of cycling tourism development.
"With this study, we want to get the data we need for the quality management of the development of this product at the destination level. We want to find out how users and service providers in cycling tourism perceive this tourist product, what motivates visitors to come, product satisfaction, and what facilities are missing," explains the head of tourism in Istria County, Nada Prodan Mraković.
The Study includes users and the local population's opinions and monitors cycling tourism's impact on other activities and society.
The study's value stands at 187,500 kuna, of which 150,000 kuna was approved from the Tourism Development Fund of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. The Institute of Agriculture and Tourism in Poreč will prepare the study, which is expected to be completed this June.
When it comes to cycling tourism, the Parenzana bike-hiking trail is indispensable. In the past five years, Istria County, local self-government units, and the Ministry of Tourism invested 3,388,000 kuna in Parenzana's arrangement, maintenance, and promotion.
Photo: Facebook Parenzana
In 2020, for example, a new lookout Brkač and protective wooden fences were installed on the Grožnjan bridge and the Pirelići overpass to increase the safety of drivers and pedestrians. Investments were made in lighting the Kalcini tunnel and general regular maintenance of the route (mowing, landscaping) was undertaken.
In cooperation with Hrvatske šume (Croatian forests), trees were planted on the rest areas and lookouts of Brkač and Rakotule. At the end of the year, for the first time, ten short videos of 15 seconds each were made to promote Parenzana.
In 2021, the emphasis will be placed on the maintenance of drainage canals, of which there are about fifty on Parenzana. Besides that, regular mowing and the upkeep of signposts, info tables, lookouts, WiFi points, and the promotional campaign on social media will continue.
The plan is also to shoot a dozen more short videos that would show off the additional content at Parenzana (gastronomy, cultural content). These activities will undoubtedly further improve but also popularise the former narrow-gauge railway which used to connect the ports of Trieste and Poreč during the 20th century. Its attractiveness is evidenced by the data on over 260,000 visitors in the past three years alone.

November 08, 2020 - Samobor is a small medieval town of Baroque architecture located only thirty kilometers away from Zagreb. This popular excursion destination situated on the slopes of the Samobor hills is an amazing weekend getaway for all who enjoy the good combination of nature, history and gastronomy.
Although everyone associates Samobor with its most famous tourist attraction, the Samobor Fašnik, this charming town attracts all lovers of cycling, hiking, fishing and even paragliding. This cradle of mountaineering abounds in numerous groomed trails that lead you to beautiful mountain peaks, waterfalls and hidden caves. From there you can reach Japetić, Oštrc or Plešivica or you can just take a chill walk to the old town of Samobor.
The old town of Samobor was built in the 13th century by the Czech king Otokar, and later numerous noble families, such as Arpadović and Anžuvinac, upgraded and lived there. In addition to being used as a castle to lords, it also served as a location for the filming of Jackie Chan’s movie Armour of God.
Samobor is ideal for sightseeing on foot. Everything is about fifteen minutes away from King Tomislav Square and the Church of St. Anastasia. In the square, each building tells its own story. On the balcony of house number 13, the Illyrian poet Stanko Vraz saw his muse Juliana Cantilly for the first time, and at number 14, the great writer Antun Gustav Matoš spent his days. In the middle of the square, there is an old well with drinking water and a legend that says that whoever drinks water from it always returns to Samobor. If you are lucky, on weekends you can see interesting antiques at the city flea market.
If you are not a fan of sports and recreation, Samobor offers a rich and varied gourmet offer, but the trademark of this city is certainly - kremšnite! This world-famous puff pastry and cream cake can be reason enough to visit Samobor, believe me.

September 28, 2020 - If you enjoy discovering divine nature by cycling, Turistickeprice.hr has narrowed it down to six breathtaking Croatian continental routes. Get ready for your next adventure!
The center of the world (yes, that's the real thing!)
Cycle to the very center of the world! The magical Ludbreg is known as the world's official center, so start by conquering it by bike. The oldest and most famous bicycle path in this area is the so-called Drava path. Eighty kilometers long, the trail follows the Drava River through a series of picturesque villages and hamlets located in the Drava lowlands.

If you are a river fan, this one is for you
Do you want your ride to be accompanied by water? Continental Croatia is rich in rivers, and the roads that stretch along them offer perfect trails for more experienced road racers. Start from Varazdin or Cakovec and drive along the Drava River and the Mura estuary towards Koprivnica, Pitomaca, Virovitica, Valpovo, Osijek, all the way to Vukovar in eastern Croatia. It is more than 300 kilometers along the rapids of the river Drava. If you don’t know where to go, do what Bear Grylls does - follow the river!

Cycling around waterfalls? You got it!
There is no greater symbol of the beauty of Croatian nature than Plitvice Lakes, which bears the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site and is visited by more than a million people every year. However, few do so by bicycle. Around the Plitvice Lakes National Park, there are beautifully landscaped bike paths of all levels of difficulty, and many take you to areas of this park that are far from the reach of other tourists. Want to have a day to remember? Start from Karlovac and drive about seventy kilometers along the old mountain road towards Josipdol. Well, that's a real challenge!

Do you like fairytales? Trakoscan awaits for you!
If you are looking for your prince or princess, take a peek at the castle! This gem, located along the border of Croatia and Slovenia, is called Trakoscan. It is one of the most important Croatian castles, and equally attracts tourists and cyclists. Who knows, maybe among them you will find the "right one". If you are not interested in fairy tales about princes and princesses and you are looking for an ordinary man with traditional skills, there is no better place than Krapina, where the magnificent Museum of Krapina Neanderthals is located. The popular circular path that leads to the castle begins and ends in Djurmanac, and includes a 38-kilometer drive along the Macelj mountain, at an altitude of approximately 380 meters.

Escape the city, go to the Medvednica Mountain
Head to the Medvednica Nature Park, only twenty minutes away from Zagreb. Not far from the hustle and bustle of Zagreb, with an altitude of up to 1000 meters, this place is a paradise for cyclists eager for adventure, whether it is road or mountain biking. It’s a real challenge when you have to climb an hour and a half by bike to the top of the mountain to get down to the base in fifteen minutes. The adrenaline will rush through your veins as you ride the Medvednica bike trails - because they are truly breathtaking!

The golden route, rich with wine
The smallest and northernmost Croatian county is known for washing gold, and there is the first oil field in Croatia (and the world!). Medjimurje offers many top bike trails that stretch throughout the county, and this region is also known for the production of top wines. With a concept that combines the pleasure of wine and the pleasure of cycling, visitors have the opportunity to experience the two main attractions of Medjimurje at once.

As reported by direktno, the Volunteer Cycling Society (DBD Potepuh) from Zagreb is organizing the Bicycle Marathon for Vukovar for the eighth year from November 15-18 to commemorate the victims of Vukovar. Fifty-two recreational cyclists from all over Croatia will ride about 350 km from Zagreb to Vukovar in three days, commemorating the anniversary of the breakdown of the city’s defense and paying tribute to the Croatian veterans and civilians killed during the siege and occupation.
The event begins on Friday, November 15th at 9:00 at Jelačić Square in Zagreb (the gathering of cyclists begins at 8:00) and they will bike to Kutina. On the second day, cyclists will again depart at 9:00 and ride from Kutina to Orubica, a picturesque village on the banks of the Sava River. On the third day, participants are expected to make their longest trek: 155 km from Orubica to Vukovar. On the fourth day, November 18th, which falls on the anniversary itself, the cyclists will be divided into two groups: those who have not been to Vukovar will visit the Memorial Cemetery and Ovcara, and the rest will join the memorial procession at the hospital. The participants will then return by train to Zagreb in the afternoon on the same day.
"Over the past seven years, the DBD Potepuh Vukovar Marathon has grown from a group ride of seventeen friends to the largest recreational cycling event commemorating the anniversary of the Homeland War, which we as organizers are particularly proud of," their statement read.
Although the association has been organizing group bicycle rides for several years in a row on the occasion of the military-police operations "Flash" and "Storm" (May 1 and August 5), the Vukovar marathon is regularly the most attended, despite happening during a colder time of the year and well outside of cycling season.
The Vukovar Cycling Marathon is not a race. Participants do not wear numbers or keep track of their time, but all ride together as a group at the same moderate pace. They carry the necessary provisions on their bicycles for a four-day trip away from home: a pad and a sleeping bag, cycling clothes for several days, "civilian" clothes for participating in the memorial procession, night riding and rain gear. "Despite these somewhat spartan conditions: cool riding temperatures and an insignificant registration fee, most of the participants are 'returnees' who have already participated in one (or more) of the DBD Potepuh cycling marathons. As organizers, this is our best confirmation of our work to date, and an impetus for organizing future similar recreational cycling meetings" the organizers added.
Information about the Volunteer Cycling Society (DBD Potepuh) and the marathon can be found here.
