Flights to Croatia: easyJet Boosts Traffic to Split with 7 New Routes

July 15, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Split Airport.

Croatian Aviation reports that easyJet announced a new set of lines to Split. After the company launched the first six lines to Croatia, which started operating from the beginning of July, the low-cost airline announced the start of operations on another 7 lines.

As we announced earlier, easyJet launched six lines to Split at the beginning of July, which you can read more about it HERE.

From the end of July, the company will significantly increase the number of routes to Split Airport, by introducing another 7 international routes, which will allow easyJet to operate to as many as 13 international destinations from Split. Traffic is established on the following lines:

Lyon - Split line is introduced from July 20, twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays,

Bristol - Split is introduced from July 21, twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays,

London Gatwick - Split line is introduced, from July 18, five times a week (every day except Monday and Friday),

Mila - Split line is introduced from July 22, twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays,

Naples - Split is introduced from July 24, six times a week (every day except Wednesday),

Paris Orly - Split line is introduced from July 24, twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays,

Manchester - Split line is introduced from July 25, twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Also, specific routes that are already in operation will have an increase in the number of weekly flights:

Amsterdam - Split will operate five times a week, instead of two times,

Geneva - Split will run three times a week, instead of once.

This is still a significantly smaller number of weekly flights and routes to Split compared to the 2019 season, but given the situation, we can be satisfied with this flight schedule.

Flights to Croatia: easyJet Introduces First 6 Lines to Croatia

June 28, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Split Airport.

Croatian Aviation reports that at the beginning of July, easyJet will launch 6 lines to Croatia. Although this well-known low-budget airline operates in the summer flight schedule to Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Pula, currently only specific routes from and to Split Airport have been confirmed.

Given the pandemic, the company has so far not launched international routes to Croatian destinations. Although you can buy tickets for many destinations and various dates on the company's website, Croatian Aviation recommends that you read the article until the end and advises you to purchase tickets by mid-July on the lines listed in the text.

At the beginning of July, easyJet will launch only 6 lines to Croatia, all to Split Airport. The company currently has almost 50 lines on sale from four Croatian airports: Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Pula.

In order to avoid possible inconveniences in the form of flight cancellations, you can find the confirmed flight schedule below, because, on all other routes, there is the possibility of weekly flight reductions or cancellations.

According to the current announcement, easyJet will operate on the following lines from the beginning of July:

Split - Amsterdam, from July 4, 2 times a week, on Saturdays and Sundays,

Split - Basel, from July 4, 4 times a week, Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays,

Split - Berlin, from July 3, daily,

Split - Geneva, from July 4, once a week, on Saturdays,

Split - London (Luton), from July 1, daily,

Split - Paris (Charles De Gaulle), from July 8, twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays.

The low-cost carrier currently confirms the flight schedule for 14 days, so all flights from mid-July are questionable. The company will almost certainly continue to operate on these routes after mid-July, and the number of weekly flights is likely to increase, but it is advised you purchase a ticket for the travel period after mid-July on the days of the week listed for each line.

As always, you should also check the restrictions of the country you are traveling to before traveling.

easyJet Holidays 2021: Clues to Croatian Tourism Challenges on Price

May 3, 2020 - Looking ahead to next year, the easyJet holidays 2021 offers are out. How is Croatia comparing on price?

One of the many great unknowns about post-corona tourism is price. What is fairly certain is that there will be less flights and less tourism in general. That will necessarily mean more competition from tourism countries for a piece of the smaller remaining pie. And of the various tools available to entice visitors at the lower end of the market, none will be more in evidence than...

Price.

Traditionally, Croatia does not do well on price comparisons with other tourism countries in the Mediterranean. That is a subject for another time, but it is clear that the days of easy tourism are over - at least for now - and if Croatia is to compete in the general tourism market, it is going to have to reassess its strategies on price.

A reader sent me an email today with some offers for easyJet holiday 2021, which he subscribed to. My heart missed a beat when I looked at the first one until I saw the date of the offer.

A family of three from the UK for a week to a 5-star resort on the water in Turkey, all-inclusive including price, for £895 total, or £299 per person. With a deposit of just £60 per person.

To repeat - return flights, transfers, 7 nights in a 5-star hotel on the water, with all food included. For less than £300 a person.

I checked the date and remembered to breathe - April 22 - 29, 2021. Very much shoulder season.

marmaris (1).png

So how did the price compare in peak season? I chose the week of July 1 - 8, 2021. More than double the price at £614 per person, but still a pretty good deal for peak season holiday in a 5-star hotel with all food taken care of, as well as flights and transfers.

I have never looked at easyJet for anything but flights before, so I decided to explore the easyJet holidays 2021 offer to see how Croatia was comparing with its early pricing for next year.

imagine (1).png

easyJet is a significant player in the Croatian market, carrying more than 600,000 passengers last year.

Not enough to make the enticing homepage advert imagining where easyJet could be taking you in 2021 - that was reserved for Iceland, Amsterdam, Tunisia and Turkey.

So how does Croatia compare on price for those same dates - July 1 - 8, 2020? I went to the Croatia section and chose the Split region. The competition from Turkey, remember, was a 5-star resort, all-inclusive with flights and transfers - for £614 per person for a family of three.

split.PNG

The Split region's cheapest option only offered bed and breakfast, not all-inclusive, was 4-star not 5, and was £50 more expensive.

The fourth-cheapest option was on the Makarska Riviera, was also one star lower in quality with only breakfast on offer. And was almost twice the price of £1,150.

In order to standardise the research, I decided to go for one type of holiday, all-inclusive of everything - flights, transfers, hotel and meals, and to see the two cheapest countries for several competing countries, as well as Croatia. Here is what I found (same dates - July 1-8, 2021).

croalljul21 (1).png

Croatia the cheapest all-inclusive was cheaper than my 5-star Turkish example above, at £601, but was only 3-star. The next cheapest was considerably more expensive, and only 4-star.

turkalljul (1).png

And if you are prepared to slum it in a 4-star hotel, you can do it at half the price in Turkey. Yes that's right, a peak season July 1-8, 2021 holiday in a 4-star Turkish hotel with flight, transfer and all food, for just £358 per person.

grealljut (1).png

Meanwhile in Greece, the 4-star all-inclusive deals are a little more expensive than Turkey, but a lot cheaper than Croatia.

montealljul (1).png

And in neighbouring Budva, easyJet holidays 2021 had jsut two offers, but you can get 5-star bed and breakfast in Budva for £565, or 4-star all-inclusive in Tivat for £663.

spainalljul (1).png

Over in Spain, the 3-star all-inclusives can be had for under £500.

portalljul (1).png

And in Portugal, the 4-star offers are the cheapest on sale, and cheaper than the Croatian equivalent.

Not surprisingly, for those who follow Croatian tourism closely, the most expensive offer in this admittedly limited random sample came from Croatia.

Is that a problem? At this point no, as there are so many things and factors which could change everything again several times between now and next summer.

But it is something that tourism planners and businesses at the cheaper end of the market need to be keenly aware of if they want to keep some semblance of market share. The tourism business has changed, and the competition in the future will be fierce.

You can do your own easyJet holidays 2021 research on the official website.

Flights to Croatia: Czech Airlines Ends Zagreb Service, Larger Aircraft on Select Easyjet Routes to Croatia

November 18, 2019 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for new flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, and Zadar.

Avio Radar reports that last summer, British low-cost carrier Easyjet took over its first Airbus A321Neo aircraft. Today, there are six in its fleet. For the 2020 summer flight schedule, Easyjet has announced this aircraft on selected routes to Croatia and will land at four airports in Croatia to which Easyjet operates. The first arrival is in Dubrovnik on May 5, 2020.

London (LGW) - Dubrovnik (DBV), once a week, Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Paris (CDG) - Split (SPU), once a week, Wednesday, June 22, 2020

Bristol (BRS) - Split (SPU), once a week, Saturday, June 27, 2020

Milan (MXP) - Zadar (ZAD), once a week, June 25, 2020

Paris (CDG) - Pula (PUY), once a week, Wednesday, July 1, 2020

The Basel/Mulhouse (BSL) - Pula (PUY) line has also been strengthened for the 2020 summer flight schedule. Namely, this line will run three flights per week instead of this year's two flights per week. This line will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from June 23 to August 29, 2020.

In other flight news, Ex Yu Aviation reports that Czech Airlines will stop its seasonal service between Prague and Zagreb.

“At this moment, the route Prague - Zagreb is not planned for the 2020 summer season,” the carrier said for Ex Yu Aviation.

With the discontinuation of this line, Croatia Airlines will be the sole seasonal route from Zagreb to the Czech capital, which will operate next year from April 7th and fly four times per week until the end of October.

Recall, when Czech Airlines launched the service between the two capitals back in 2016, it ran throughout the year. Back in 2017, the airline moved to a seasonal service.

Flights to Croatia: Three New Connections for Netherlands and Zadar

Three new flights to Croatia are on the cards as Croatia's rich tourist offer impresses the Dutch in Utrecht.

As Morski writes on the 10th of January, 2019, the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) has been presenting the Croatian tourist offer at the Vakantiebeurs fair, which takes place in the Dutch town of Utrecht from January 9th to the 13th, 2019. The fair is intended for both a business and a wider audience, and on the first day of the fair alone, the Dutch have shown huge interest for various Croatian destinations, especially for the Croatia's camping segment. Owing to the level of interest from the Netherlands, three new flights to Croatia from Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Einhoven are ready to take off in 2019.

''The presentation at the Utrecht fair starts with the presentation of the Croatian tourist offer at the most important fairs with key emission markets. The Croatian National Tourist Board will organise the presentation of the Croatian tourist offer at a total of 22 fairs in 2019, of which there are 17 general ones, and five specialised ones, including three nautical fairs and two camping fairs,'' said the Croatian National Tourist Board's director Kristjan Staničić, adding that during 2018, almost 500,000 arrivals and about 3.2 million overnight stays were realised by Dutch tourists, representing fairly significant growth of nine percent in terms of arrivals and of five percent in terms of overnight stays made by the Dutch back in 2017.

Within the scope of the current Utrecht fair, numerous meetings with representatives of various tour operators, travel agents and airline companies such as TUI, Thomas Cook, Transavia, D-Reizen, Rotterdam-Den Haag Airport, Travel Counselors Association and others are also taking place.

Such meetings are aimed at discussing activities and better cooperation in the upcoming period. The first information which can be concluded from Dutch tour operators is that the interest level of the Dutch for Croatia is currently at last year's level, but the real period of intensification lies not too far ahead.

''We're extremely pleased with the increasing interest of air carriers for Croatia, as evidenced by the announcement of the introduction of three new air lines from the Netherlands to Croatia, more precisely to Zadar in 2019. The Transavie line will connect Zadar with Rotterdam, Ryanair will link Zadar with Eindhoven, and Easyjet will link Zadar to Amsterdam,'' said Ivan Novak, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board's representation for the Benelux countries.

EasyJet Introduces Fifth New Line to Croatia, Talks Expansion

Just hours after British low-cost carrier EasyJet announced four new routes to Croatia for next summer, including connections between Dubrovnik and Berlin (Tegel), Pula and Amsterdam, Pula and Geneva, and Zadar and London (Gatwick), another line was introduced - Dubrovnik to Nantes, reports AvioRadar on December 13, 2018.

Yet another new line for the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, EasyJet will operate between Dubrovnik and Nantes with three flights weekly, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from June 24 to August 30, 2019.

This will be the first EasyJet line for Croatia from Nantes, in the northwest of France, though it is the 18th line from Dubrovnik and the fourth connecting Dubrovnik and France. Either the Airbus A319 or the Airbus A320 will be used for this service.

These 2019 announcements, however, are all a part of EasyJet’s plans to expand their operations in Croatia, which should see over one million seats on sale going to and from Croatia next year. The plans also place particular focus on Pula, reports Ex Yu Aviation on December 14, 2018.

"With more than fifty services operating in Croatia, EasyJet is committed to providing Croatian clients with affordable trips, offering them a broad network of connections with major European cities. Pula is very trendy both with young people who want to go to the various festivals of Croatia, but also with more mature people as well, and we expect all our new routes to be especially popular with passengers,” said EasyJet’s UK Country Manager, Ali Gayward.

"This announcement of our expansion highlights our commitment to providing affordable routes to summer holiday destinations. We’re sure that they will prove extremely popular for those looking for a summer break or visiting friends and family,” Sophie Dekkers, EasyJet's UK Country Director, added.

The new EasyJet routes are also in direct completion with airlines such as Croatia Airlines (which flies between Amsterdam and Pula) and Swiss International Air Lines (which operates between Geneva and Dubrovnik). The new Nantes route for EasyJet, which flies to the Pearl of the Adriatic, will compete against Volotea and TUIfly Belgium, while the Dubrovnik-Berlin (Tegel) route faces off with Eurowings.

In 2019, EasyJet will operate over 3,100 flights to Croatia during the peak season - July and August.

EasyJet Announces Four New Lines to Croatia in 2019

British low-cost airline EasyJet will launch four new lines to Croatia in their 2019 summer flight schedule, including two to Pula, one to Dubrovnik, and one to Zadar, reports AvioRadar on December 13, 2018.

The strongest new line for the carrier will operate between Dubrovnik and Berlin (Tegel) three times a week, on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. This new line is in addition to the long-standing Dubrovnik-Berlin (Schonefeld) route. Unlike the Schonefeld route, the new Tegel route will begin operating almost two months earlier - from May 2, 2019. At the same time, this route will run until the end of the summer schedule, or October 26, 2019.

The Schonefeld line, however, will also get an upgrade. The popular route will now be strengthened to four flights per week, instead of three, and run on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This brings the total number of flights between Dubrovnik and Berlin to seven a week, which is an additional four flights compared to last year.

Pula will also get two new routes next summer from the Netherlands and Switzerland. The new Pula-Amsterdam line will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays, from June 25 to September 1, 2019. The new Pula-Geneva line will also circulate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from June 26 to August 31, 2019. This will be the second line to Pula from Switzerland after Basel was introduced this year, which will continue operating with two flights per week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, in 2019.

The fourth new EasyJet line for Croatia next summer is between Zadar and London (Gatwick). The new line will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from April 30 to October 26, 2019. Similar to Dubrovnik, this is an additional line for EasyJet from London, which already operates to Zadar from London Luton Airport. The existing EasyJet flight from Luton will run twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from April 30 to October 26, 2019.

All EasyJet flights will use an Airbus A320 aircraft or the smaller Airbus A319.
