October 13, 2021 - As we get closer to the holiday season we get a better idea of what to expect in the 2021 Split Advent program as offers for holiday houses roll in around the city.
To experience the real Advent experience, Split residents will not have to travel to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Makarska, but also other cities outside Croatia this year. This year's Split Advent peak will be on the Riva, at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer Park (Đardin), on the Cornaro ramparts, and in Mertojak, reports Dalmacija Danas.
The first round of the public invitation to exhibit, present and sell products and services at the 2021 Split Advent ended earlier this week.
"Yesterday, at a public invitation, we received an offer for the Mertojak zone. With this offer, all zones were filled, except for one catering house on Đardin and several shops on the Riva. Therefore, tomorrow we will publish the second round of applications, and we hope that the little that is left will be filled," said the director of Žnjan d.o.o. Ante Šunjić.
Namely, OPG Ante Žigo submitted an offer for 8,000 kuna, Obrt za trgovinu Sirko and Naprid bili for 6,000 kuna, and Riba Dražin for 10,000 kuna. UO Ring sent a bid for a spot on the Riva (going for a little more than 51,000 kuna), and for 33,500 kuna, they will also sell their products in Đardin. They will be joined by BSRZ Naši ljudi in the park in the center of the city, who offered 33,600 kuna for their house.
Highline Cars, which offered HRK 50,013, will take care of the catering offer at Mertojak.
Split Riva
This year, the Riva will feature eight trading houses and two ‘sweet’ houses. One of the eight trading houses is Hajdukova, meaning the Hajduk Fan shop will move to the Riva during this holiday period.
The catering houses have been transferred to the Cornaro ramparts.
"Due to the current epidemiological situation, which may be better or worse, we are not able to set up catering houses on the Riva. However, visitors can expect ten houses, eight of which are commercial and two 'sweet' houses," said Šunjić.
He notes that the second round of applications for the exhibition, presentation, and sale of products and services at Split Advent starts today. There are several trading houses left on the Riva.
Đardin
This year, there will be a skating rink in Đardin, with two food and three ‘sweet’ houses.
Cornaro ramparts
A real surprise for the people of Split is the food offer at Cornaro. The best bid of 160,013 kuna was made by the Festival Production Association, owned by Domagoj Petričević, otherwise the leader of the Association of Nightclubs and Bars.
Mertojak Park
Residents of Mertojak can expect a skating rink and food offer.
“For the first time this year, we organized a zone outside the city center, on Mertojak below the church. There will also be a smaller skating rink and catering houses for all ages," added Šunjić for Dalmacija Danas.
Žrnovnica
After a one-year break, the Žrvanj Association plans to organize another Christmas story in Žrnovnica in the center of Bašta in December.

May 16, 2020 - By the beginning of summer, surveillance cameras will be installed in 14 locations, or public areas, in the city center of Split.
If you've been wondering about the installations in attractive locations around the heart of the city over the last few days, it is most likely the new surveillance devices installed by the employees of the company "Electronic Security", which is the contractor of the project. This news was confirmed to Slobodna Dalmacija by Krešimir Budiša, the mayor's advisor for development projects.
The video cameras will thus cover the most popular areas in the city center, like Peristyle, Pjaca, Matejuška, the area in front of the Croatian National Theater, Sv. Frane, the Riva on both ends, Marmontova, King Tomislav Street near the Josip Hatze Music School, the top of Bosanska Street, Zlatna Vrata, Đardin and Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square.
"With this, we will finally get video surveillance of the city center in the 21st century. The cameras are currently in function at the Croatian National Theater and Matejuška. The cameras will help us fight crime and solve communal problems. For now, the recordings are being monitored from a special room in Banovina, which is being done by a security company, and our plan is to form a joint operational control center for everyone in the building of the former "Čistoća" building," Budiša announced.
HRK 1.7 million has been allocated from this year's budget for the video surveillance of public areas, and the next planned activity is the installation of cameras at bus stops. The Mayor's advisor also announced that the intention of the City of Split is to have full management of traffic and intersections with a modern system, which is already being agreed with the Ministry of Transport.

December 1, 2019 - By lighting the first candle on the Advent wreath in Đardin, Advent in Split' officially began.
The candle lighting was preceded by a sermon by Edvard Punda, Rector of the Archdiocesan Seminary, reports Dalmacija Danas.
“Don't envy others and the beauty that is happening around us. All the good that is happening in Split and all the initiatives are our good. Advent calls us to be able to enjoy all the good around us but also to be able to recognize the good in people,” he said.
Following the sermon, Split Mayor Andro Krstulovic Opara, Split Tourist Board Director Alijana Vuksic, and DMC Director Ante Sunjic lit the first Advent candle.
This symbolically marked the start of this year’s Advent in Split, and over the next month, citizens and visitors will find a handful of advent and Christmas programs.
“Every year, we strive to change the Advent paradigm and bring it back to the way it was thirty years ago, to turn towards children and family. This year we decided to have the ice rink in Đardin and we believe that the children will be pleased this year too, and when they can't go to school to spend time here, outside, and enjoy the ice, which is not a common phenomenon on the Adriatic. It will even be too small for all the children who will want to come here,” said Krstulovic Opara.
Magical winter scenes filled the streets and squares of Split on Saturday night, which you can see in the photos below.
On Sunday, visitors can enjoy the concert of classical music and Christmas songs, performed by the ENDeM Quartet, beginning at 11 am in Đardin. At the same time, on the Riva, Klapa Sv. Mihovil and Brass music Žrnovnica will take the stage. The youngest are invited to Perivoj, where a children's workshop with magical animators awaits them at 11 am.

It’s official! The reception for the players of the Croatia national team begins today at 16:00.
Sun is shining, the weather is sweet, and Brasserie on 7 has new treats for us to eat!
We're halfway through November, meaning we're even closer to the longest Split Advent yet!
On the 16th October 2017, I took a stroll down the Riva and was pleasantly surprised, there is a ‘Croatian Fair’ currently happening on the Riva.
Split Riva, it is always next to immaculate, a beautiful sight and first impression for visiting tourists… but have you ever wondered how it transforms from dusk til dawn?
