In June this year, the Croatian national airline Croatia Airlines announced 42 international routes from five Croatian airports - Rijeka, Split, Dubrovnik, Zagreb, and Osijek. Croatian Aviation brings you a list of lines with the number of weekly operations.
In June this year, Croatia Airlines is increasing the number of international routes, mainly from its base at Split Airport, from where the aircraft will take off to new international destinations. May 26, 2022 - Hajduk beat Rijeka 3:1 in the Croatian Cup final on Thursday at Poljud for their first trophy in 9 years!
Hajduk and Rijeka met in the Croatian Cup final tonight at a sold-out Poljud Stadium in Split.
Interestingly, in all four Croatian Championship matches this season, Rijeka was more successful at Poljud (1:2 and 1:3), and Hajduk fought back at Rujevica, winning 2:3 last fall and 0:3 a few weeks ago.
Rijeka last won the Cup two years ago, while Hajduk had been waiting for any trophy for nine years, last winning the Cup in 2013.
Rijeka and Hajduk have won the Cup six times in independent Croatia.
Lineups
HAJDUK: L. Kalinić, Mikanović, Ferro, Elez, Melnjak, Fossati, Grgić, Sahiti, Krovinović, Mlakar, Livaja; Hajduk was without Nikola Kalinić due to a virus.
RIJEKA: Labrović - Krešić, Velkovski, Smolčić - Ampem, Selahi, Čerin, Vukčević - Pavičić - Obregon, Drmić
Recap
Hajduk showed they were hungry already in the first two minutes of the match, maintaining possession with Melnjak taking the first shot on goal. Livaja shot over the crossbar a minute later.
Rijeka found their rhythm in the next few minutes and pushed up into Hajduk's half. Hajduk had a good chance from a free kick in the 8th minute which Melnjak headed over the post.
While Hajduk had the chances it was Rijeka to capitalize on theirs first. A breakaway for Drmić and a goal for 1:0 Rijeka.
Hajduk had their first corner in the 16th minute and continued to push into Rijeka's half. Krovinović just missed the goal in the 20th minute.
Hajduk had another corner a minute later. And another in the 23rd minute. Ferro equalized for Hajduk for 1:1 in the 24th minute!
The match was back and forth for the next 5 minutes. Rijeka had a dangerous free kick in the 31st minute which deflected off of Hajduk’s defense and into Kalinić’s hands.
Melnjak was found in the penalty area in the 33rd minute, though his shot deflected for another Hajduk corner. And then Melnjak finally got his chance - he scored for 1:2 Hajduk in the 36th minute!
Smolcic was shown his second yellow in the 41st minute, forcing Rijeka to play with a man down for the remainder of the match. It was 1:2 for Hajduk at halftime.
Hajduk had their first corner of the second half already in the 47th minute. And another in the 51st. The match was back and forth for the next 5 minutes until a tragic Rijeka mistake in the defense helped Melnjak to his second goal of the match for 1:3 Hajduk!
Another corner for Hajduk in the 60th minute - they were beginning to outclass Rijeka now.
Mlakar was subbed off for Colina and Vukovic for Grgic as Hajduk's first subs 61st minute.
Rijeka subbed off Lepinjica for Selahi and Muric for Pavicic a minute later.
Livaja had a super chance in the 67th minute which went out for a corner. He was hungry to score. Another breakaway for Livaja moments later went over the post.
Hajduk dominated for the next 10 minutes, leaving Rijeka without much of a chance to attack.
Rijeka's first real chance of the second half came in the 80th minute but they shot over the goal.
Sahiti was subbed off for Biuk moments later.
Biuk forced a corner on his first touch in the 82nd minute. Livaja weakly shot to keep it 1:3 for Hajduk.
Rijeka had a. corner in the 84th minute and Stanic was subbed off for Cerin.
The match came to a halt in the 90th minute as Rijeka's fans launched flares into the VIP section. And the match came to an end - Hajduk is the Croatian Cup champion!

May 26, 2022 - In our new TCN series, we uncover the lives of expats that have spent over 5 years living in Split. Next up, meet Rainee Wang from Xi’an, China!
Two idyllic weeks on a Croatian beach is very different from the realities of full-time living. So what is it really like to live in Croatia as an expat? In a new series on TCN, we meet expats who have lived here for 5 years or more, to find out from them the good, the bad, and the ugly of 12-month living in Croatia. Next up, Rainee Wang from Xi’an, China!
1. Tell us firstly how you came to Croatia? What motivated you to choose this slice of paradise and how long have you now been here?
I was born and raised in central China. After college graduation, I moved to Europe to continue my study in hospitality, and years working in Holland, the US, China, India, and Montenegro.
The first time I came to Croatia was in 2006 and I visited Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb. I was amazed by the beauty of Croatia. These 3 places are all special in their way. I moved here at the end of 2013. We decided to start our own business here in Split. It has been almost 9 years now.
2. Looking back, what were your perceptions and expectations?
There are some similarities between Croatian culture and Chinese culture. We are both very family-oriented cultures. Family is more important than oneself. Hospitality is a very important part of the social stand. When I visit a Croatian family, the warm welcome I get and the way they take care of me, really reminds me of home, with endless food and drinks, and they won’t let you leave the house without a satisfied stomach. But on the other hand, there are big differences in the business world. In Croatia, especially in Dalmatia, it is very lay-back. This kind of “po lako” culture doesn't exist in the Chinese business world. It made me very uncomfortable at the beginning. I felt like I was living in the last century. I was sure “po lako” culture would never succeed in business.
3. After 9 years here, how have those perceptions changed. Do you now view Croatia differently?
After nine years of living in Croatia, I have changed a lot. I'm used to “po lako” culture. I remember complaining “Nothing is finished on time!” “Look at these Croatians, they just drink coffee all day long.” “Nothing is more important than a coffee break” But now, I am almost one of them. Of course, I cannot change my Chinese nature completely. However, I started to understand why it is this way, and even see the beauty of it. Being slow is not just working slowly. It is 'stop for a moment and enjoy'. It is taking time for yourself. Which I think is the true luxury in the modern world.
4. After your 9 years, the 3 things you love most about Croatia?
When people ask me about Croatia, the first thing that comes to my mind is the beautiful climate, warm people, and delicious food. I think there is no need to say anything about the climate. Nature can speak for itself. People are very warm and kind, I was always treated nicely as a foreigner. However, I have to say it is very difficult to get into the local circle in Split. It seems they don’t like to make friends with outsiders. But it is not true, once you find local friends, they take you in, and treat you like family. The food is delicious. I guess in China food production becomes industrialized mass production. It is hard to find a fresh market in big cities. The taste of fruit and vegetables becomes artificial. That is why I was so surprised to taste “real” vegetables, fruit, and meat. The flavor is incomparable.
5. And the 3 things you would like to change.
Well, I guess the first thing is always the bureaucracy like everyone else would mention. “Jedan papir fali” is true. There is always one paper missing. I have never finished anything with just one visit to the government building. But after nine years of dealing with MUP, I have developed my way of communicating with them. Since Covid started, when most of the communication went online, it is much more efficient.
I mentioned earlier that I started to enjoy the “po lako” culture. But sometimes. I still miss the real business world when everything is organized and punctual. I miss the procedures (I cannot believe I am saying this).
6. Given your experiences, what advice would you give to any would-be expat thinking of making the move?
I'm not a person who gives advice, because everybody has a different lifestyle and different cultural background. But for Chinese people who want to move to Croatia, I would suggest being patient. Things will be done. But it just needs more time. One minute of Croatian time is not one minute of Chinese time. We always need to find a way around and use the connections we have. If you don’t have one, build your connections.
7. The most beautiful place in Croatia, and why?
I think there is no most beautiful place, only a more beautiful place. Each place is unique. My first visit to Croatia was to Dubrovnik, I thought this is the most beautiful place in Croatia, but when I arrived in Plitvice I felt a different beauty. The islands are all beautiful in their own way. For me, the most beautiful place in Croatia is the island of Vis, the small yet authentic little town with amazing nature and rich history behind it. However, as I said before, Vis is my favorite place in Croatia for now, maybe in the future, I will have more discoveries.
8. Your favourite moment of your time in Croatia?
I have had many memorable moments in Croatia. The favorite ones are always the time spent with my favorite people. Weddings for sure. I have been to a few weddings in different locations. I enjoyed them all, the stunning view, and the cheerful people. The Christmas market on the Riva, back in 2015, and 2016 was special. I was working in one of the “kućica” on the Riva. In the cold winter, the atmosphere of the whole place was warm. Now they have moved the Christmas market to Đardin.

May 25, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Air Serbia flights to Croatia have been significantly boosted from Belgrade this summer.
Serbian national airline Air Serbia will launch two seasonal routes to Split and Dubrovnik by the end of May, and flights from Belgrade to Pula, Rijeka, and Zadar by mid-June, reports Croatian Aviation.
Namely, Air Serbia plans to operate to six Croatian airports this summer, with only the route to Zagreb being year-round.
Already this Thursday, May 26, two lines will start operating from Belgrade to Split and Dubrovnik. These are also the two most popular of Air Serbia lines to and from Croatia.
The line between Belgrade and Split will operate from May 26, twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, and the number of weekly operations will gradually increase. Namely, first on June 6, an additional flight will be introduced on Mondays, and then on June 24 with a flight on Fridays, which will allow Air Serbia to operate between the two cities four times a week, using ATR72, A319, and A320 aircraft.
The line between Dubrovnik and Belgrade will start operating on the same day. Currently, two flights a week have been announced, also on Thursdays and Sundays, with an additional flight available on Mondays from June 13. ATR72 and A319 aircraft have also been announced on this route.
From mid-June, there will be lines from Belgrade to Pula, Rijeka, and Zadar, and everything will start around the same period. Namely, the line between Belgrade and Zadar will start with traffic from June 14 with two flights a week, a day later (June 15), the line between Belgrade and Rijeka will begin, and from June 16, flights between Belgrade and Pula will launch.
All three mentioned lines have announced two flights a week in June with ATR72 aircraft. The line to Zadar will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, to Rijeka on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and to Pula on Thursdays and Sundays.

In June, Air Serbia will operate on 6 mentioned routes to Croatia with a total of 20 weekly flights, which is a significant increase, especially compared to the same period last year and the year before. The number of flights will continue to grow in the peak summer season.

May 24, 2022 - You can spend a large part of your itinerary in the city centre, but did you know that you can get to know many interesting Split destinations by bus? We're going to show you how.
Whether it is a short visit or for a week, the City of Split can fill your itinerary with activities of all kinds, sights, gastronomic spots, and much more. But what if you feel the need to explore your surroundings? Surely from the window of your plane, shortly before landing, you noticed that Split is much more than just its centre. In the high season, you may want a little respite from the crowds, so why not explore some of the nearby Split destinations? By using public transport, you can save yourself the fees of renting a car to visit these relatively local destinations, as well as the tedious search for parking in the city.
Photo: Ivo Cagalj/PIXSELL
The public transport system in the City of Split is called Promet (Traffic) and its buses can take you beyond the centre. The bus network is divided into four zones, and that is how ticket prices are determined (based on proximity to the very centre). If you're very clear about where you're going, you can buy your tickets at the Tisak stands indicating the area you are going to, or you can also pay the bus driver himself, indicating the exact destination you are going to.
The prices of bus tickets by zone are as follows:
Zone 1: 9 kuna
Zone 2: 13 kuna
Zone 3: 17 kuna
Zone 4: 21 kuna
Image: Promet Split
Now, the question is, where do you want to go? Generally, everything in the centre of Split is part of Zone 1. You can choose between beautiful and less crowded beaches, small and picturesque old settlements, or even historical places beyond that zone. The choice is yours. Here are some ideas for Split destinations you can visit in zones 2, 3 and 4 with the city's public transport system.
ZONE 2
Solin
Solin is located very close to the centre, just northeast of Split. Originally called Solana, it was a Greek colony founded in the 3rd century BC, and later a Roman colony. At that time, it ended up becoming the fourth largest city in the entire Roman Empire. For a zone 2 ticket to Solin, you can go ahead and visit its impressive ruins. You'll need to get on bus number 2 (Split - Poljička - K. Sućuraj (Strinje) - Split Airport), or bus number 38 (Split - K. Stari - Resnik).

Stobreč
On the southern loop of Split zone 2, Stobreč is the first destination you can get to. It's ideal if you are looking for somewhere nearby to relax and with a good number of bars and restaurants. Stobreč also has a golf course, if that's your thing. You'll need to get on bus number 60 (Split-Omiš) or number 25 (Split-Stobreč).
Overview of Stobreč. (Photo: Mario Romulić)
Podstrana
Passing Stobreč, you'll reach Podstrana. Podstrana has a large number of beautiful beaches, with bars and restaurants on them. I always say, if you are looking to enjoy the sea in Split and away from the crowds, go to Podstrana. If you're looking for something other than the beaches, you can also go hiking in the surrounding hills or kayaking on the Žrnovnica river. Did you also know that legends say that Podstrana is where the famous King Arthur could have been buried? You'll need to get on bus number 60 (Split-Omiš) to get here.

ZONE 3
Kaštela
Please note that there is more than one Kaštela! It won't be something that will have much relevance when paying for your ticket, since they're all in the same area. Kaštela is located northwest of Split, on the way to the airport. No matter which Kaštela you decide to go to, be sure to enjoy its promenades, beaches, and marinas! You'll need to get on bus number 2 (Split - Poljička - K. Sućuraj (Strinje) - Split Airport), or bus number 38 (Split - K. Stari - Resnik).
Krilo
If you pass Podstrana, heading south, you will enter zone 3. There are many places that you can visit almost in succession: Mutogras, Jesenice, Sumpetar, Dugi Rat... Krilo has very nice beaches, as well. You'll need to get on bus number 60 (Split-Omiš).

ZONE 4
Duće
Duće is one of the last destinations in zone 3 to the south. Many continue on to Omiš, but Duće is a place that deserves all your attention for its beautiful beaches and camping sites. You'll need to get on bus number 60 (Split-Omiš).
At the beginning of Zone 4, just before Omiš, you'll find Duće. (Photo: Mario Romulić)
Trogir
Passing the Split Airport, you'll find the very ancient and picturesque town of Trogir. Often regarded as the miniature version of Split, its beautiful promenade and narrow streets will stick in your mind for a long time. A good idea is to find pristine beaches in the bridge-connected island of Čiovo. You'll need to get on bus number 37 (Split - Split Airport - Trogir).

Omiš
Omiš is one of the most popular and largest towns on the coastal road between Split and Dubrovnik. Just 40 minutes from the center, Omiš is a true jewel of the Dalmatian coast, with beautiful old streets, the Cetina canyon, and wonderful beaches. You'll need to get on bus number 60 (Split-Omiš).

May 23, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as 45 British Airways Split flights will operate next month, with daily operations in June between Heathrow and Split Airport!
Oneworld alliance member British Airways recently reduced the number of weekly rotations to Zagreb in July, justifying the move by lower demand and a shortage of crew and aircraft, but also increased the number of weekly flights to Split starting next month, reports Croatian Aviation.
In June, British Airways will operate 45 return flights between the two London airports and Split Airport, and from May 28, one aircraft will spend the night on Saturday in Resnik.
Namely, Saturday's arrival of the plane from Heathrow to Split is scheduled after 11 pm, with an early departure from Split back to London the next day, which is certainly positive news for the airport and some of the hotels nearby where the crew will spend the night.
British Airways will operate daily between Heathrow and Split in June, and two flights a day are available on certain days of the week, especially Saturdays and Sundays.
In addition to the Heathrow route, British Airways will operate a regular seasonal route between London City Airport and Split this summer, and according to the latest announcements, this route should operate from June 17, three times a week, every Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
More than 15,000 seats are available on the line between Heathrow and Split in June alone, as well as an additional 1,100 additional seats to London City Airport. This is excellent news for Split Airport which is already expecting one of its busiest summer seasons after taking the title of the busiest airport in Croatia in 2021!
British Airways also operates to Zagreb and Dubrovnik, and the fourth destination in Croatia will soon be Pula Airport.

On May 21, the German leisure airline Condor resumed traffic to two Croatian airports - Rijeka and Dubrovnik, reports Croatian Aviation. Condor thus resumed traffic to Rijeka and Dubrovnik on four international lines from Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.
Rijeka Airport
Rijeka Airport is already connected to Frankfurt by Lufthansa, which currently operates on this route once a week, every Saturday. On May 25, the airline will introduce a second weekly flight, on Wednesdays.
In addition to Lufthansa, Condor will operate on this route once a week, also on Saturdays, until the end of September, so Rijeka Airport has a regular connection with Frankfurt three times a week. On the first Condor flight from Frankfurt, 103 passengers arrived in Rijeka, while 33 of them traveled from Rijeka.
Condor also launched the announced line between Rijeka and Dusseldorf, which will run twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. 146 passengers arrived in Rijeka on the first Condor flight, while 22 of them traveled from Kvarner to Düsseldorf. Rijeka is connected to Düsseldorf by a regular Eurowings line, which launched yesterday. It should also be mentioned that Eurowings is introducing a line from Stuttgart, and today from Berlin and Hamburg to Rijeka.
Dubrovnik Airport
Condor resumed traffic to Dubrovnik Airport, also with lines from Dusseldorf and Frankfurt, and both will be in traffic once a week, every Saturday.
Dubrovnik is connected to Frankfurt by regular lines of Croatia Airlines and Lufthansa, while the line between Dubrovnik and Dusseldorf, in addition to Condor, is also operated by Eurowings.
Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that Czech airline Smartwings has withdrawn all flights previously announced for this summer season on the seasonal route between Prague and Dubrovnik. The airline will operate exclusively to Split.
The Prague-Dubrovnik line was supposed to operate daily during the peak season.
Smartwings will operate between Prague and Split this summer and the line is already in traffic. The number of weekly flights will gradually increase from four to seven flights a week, and flights between the two cities are planned until October 9 this year.
