Strikes at Shipyards End (Temporarily)

ZAGREB, September 3, 2018 - Workers of Rijeka's 3. Maj shipyard came to work on Monday and the striking committee has decided to end the strike which was put on hold on Friday, committee chairman Veljko Todorović said. He said only minor work was being done in the dock as there was still no material to resume production.

Investigation, New Strategic Partner Discussed in Uljanik Crisis

ZAGREB, September 2, 2018 - The leader of the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) Boris Miletić has said in an interview with Hina that neither Istria County authorities nor the Pula town government would ever change the town’s spatial plan in the area where the Uljanik shipyard is located in such a way to cause harm to the shipyard or its workers and called on prosecutorial authorities and the USKOK anti-corruption agency to investigate Uljanik's operations and see if there had been any irregularities.

Finance Minister Wants Long-Term Solution for Companies in Trouble

ZAGREB, September 1, 2018 - Finance Minister Zdravko Marić told Večernji List on Saturday that the state budget would withstand the payment of costs related to the ailing Uljanik shipbuilding group and the Petrokemija artificial fertiliser producer and that there would be no corrections on its revenue side or an increase in taxes, however, he did call for long-term solutions "so that we stop financing and salvaging always the same loss-making companies."

EU Informed about Government’s Decision to Pay Wages in Shipyards

Uljanik Workers Start Receiving Salaries for July, Will End Strike

ZAGREB, August 31, 2018 - The payment of wages for July to workers of the Uljanik Group started on Friday, union steward Đino Šverko said on Friday afternoon, adding that the strike committee will on Monday make a formal decision on the end of the industrial action which started ten days ago, and workers in the shipbuilding and repair group will resume working on Monday.

HPB to Provide Funds for Uljanik Salaries

ZAGREB, August 31, 2018 - The government said on Thursday that, at the closed part of its session, it had provided state guarantees to the Croatian Postal Bank (HPB) for changing insurance instruments for HPB's loans to the Uljanik shipyard from 2015 and 2016, which will make it possible to pay wages in the Uljanik Group.

Government Trying to Find Money to Pay Shipbuilders Salaries

ZAGREB, August 27, 2018 - After meeting with the striking council from the Pula- and Rijeka-based shipyards on Monday, Economy Minister Darko Horvat said that intensive effort was being made to secure two wages for workers at the Uljanik Group and that he hoped that by the end of the week a solution would be found for at least one pay.

Shipyard Workers Protest, Meet with Officials

ZAGREB, August 27, 2018 - Following a meeting with government officials in Zagreb on Monday, representatives of the striking committee in the Uljanik and 3. Maj shipyards, whose workers have been on a strike since last Wednesday over unpaid wages for July, said that money for two monthly wages could be secured by the end of the week and that the strike would end after they received their wages for July.
