Design District Zagreb Goes Green this Year

By 1 March 2017

Design District Zagreb will take place this June.

An event that brought together around 30,000 visitors last year for its first edition, this year’s Design District Zagreb will offer two more days of content and will be held from June 13 to 18th, 2017, reports Buro 247 on February 28, 2017.

In cooperation with the Tourist Board of Zagreb, and with the support of the City of Zagreb, the Adris Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture, the festival program will be realized in cooperation with numerous partners and protagonists of cultural and entrepreneurial activities in the area, as well as the many selected participants within the program.

This year's festival introduces a new segment - the “Green” program. Although the first edition of the festival included several workshops and projects that dealt with ecology and sustainable development in the context of design, architecture and urban activism, this year the organizational team decided that all "green" facilities will unite under a separate segment. Within the new "Green" program, potential participants will be offered the opportunity to apply their own proposals and projects that could contribute to the quality, caution, and functional use of resources for the Zagreb “Design District" and consequently other parts of the city.

The first festival brought together 220 different participants that included designers, architects, artists, activists, curators, communications experts, musicians, writers, and entrepreneurs with up to 115 completed projects, and initiatives who have their own facilities were joined by 84 local partners. During the four days of the festival there were 78 micro locations that were visited by around 30,000 visitors.

The rich program included exterior and interior exhibitions, installations and interventions in public spaces, guided tours of architectural monuments, valuable and incentivized contests, workshops, discussions and round tables, a book fair, and literary and musical evenings. These and the many additional facilities will re-open this June to the public, with this year expecting an even more diverse program aimed at all age groups.

The invitation is open to all interested designers, architects, artists and other creators to participate in the new “Green” program, and you can find the program on the official website here
