Connecting Osijek and Stuttgart: More Details Emerge on the New Eurowings Line

By 28 December 2016

Representatives from Osijek Airport and airline Eurowings signed an agreement on Wednesday to officially begin the direct passenger line from Osijek to Stuttgart, which will from May next year connect these cities twice a week and throughout the year. TCN first announced the new Eurowings line over the weekend.

Director of the Osijek Airport Domagoj Marinić said at a press conference on the occasion of the signing that he expects that regular passenger services will contribute to new lines and attract more German tourists. It is believed that in the coming years, in cooperation with Eurowings, other lines will be opened, reports Lokalni.Vecernji.hr on 28 December 2016.

Marinić also reported that Osijek airport this year will have served about 31,000 passengers, which is about 10 percent more than last year, and the launch of routes to Stuttgart and to Basel, in cooperation with Wizz Air, should expect around 80,000 passengers next year.

The manager of network development at Eurowings Ivan Oreč said that Osijek is an interesting destination, and considering that in Baden-Wuerttemberg there are 150,000 Croats, they will consider the possibility of opening some other lines in the next two to three years. He also points out that Stuttgart is one of eight Eurowings bases in Germany through which passengers can connect to a number of German and other European destinations.

Osijek Mayor Ivan Vrkić estimated that the new Stuttgart line will facilitate travel for Croats to their homeland and expressed satisfaction with the many years of upward trends of business for Osijek airport.
