Now that Advent in Zagreb has finally packed up and put away their festive flair, we can count the numbers and add up the results after a month and a half of holiday fun.
The figures are more than impressive. For starters, Zagreb this year recorded an increase of 50% in overnight stays when compared to the same period last year, reports Tportal on January 9, 2017.
According to the Zagreb Tourist Board, over the past month and a half, 120,000 arrivals and 230,000 overnight stays were recorded. Owners of Christmas stalls at Zrinjevac, it seems, have brought home good profits from the tourists, however they have emphasized that because of the high costs it takes a business a lot of work and sacrifice to be successful during this time of year.
The richer content at this year’s Advent definitely contributed to the increasing number of guests. In addition to Advent, Zagreb also hosted the first ever Croatia Winter Music Festival and the Snow Queen race which helped to prolong the stay of tourists - who now remain in the city on average for two days.
Because of the good results this year, the Ice Park and the rink at Tomislav Square will be open for another week - until 15 January. Hotels, hostels, and many apartments are still full of tourists, and Zagreb Advent once again ended this year with the title of best Advent in Europe.
