The Daily Telegraph chooses the 25 greatest Mediterranean islands for a family holiday.
How does one go about choosing the best island destination for a holiday to suit all the wants and needs of a family? Not to worry, The Daily Telegraph is here to save the day, making family travel much easier in their “25 greatest Mediterranean islands for a family holiday,” published on June 8, 2017.
It’s no surprise that the Telegraph has included Croatian islands on this list - the newspaper is known for showering the country and coastline with love, after all. But which islands did the Telegraph choose this time around?
On the list of the 25 greatest, the Telegraph has chosen the Croatian islands of Vis, Mljet, Brač, and Hvar as the best Mediterranean island destinations for a family holiday.
Vis has been chosen as the island that is best for “back-to-nature”. Closed to foreigners for years, the island remains unspoiled and visitors can enjoy the many coves and authentic seafood. The best place for the family to stay? Boutique Hotel San Giorgio.
Mljet has been chosen as the best island for “peace and quiet with tweens.” Offering a national park which covers one-third of the island, Mljet is the perfect place to for swimming and cycling. Other perks? Odysseus Cave or the sandy beaches at Saplunara are tempting, and the evening Kino Mediteran outdoor cinema will please all members of the family. Where to stay? Hotel Odisej.
Brač island is your go-to for “sporty and independent teens” who take interest in water sports. The family can enjoy everything from windsurfing to stand-up paddle boarding here, and plenty of cycling and hiking will surely be in your plans. The best place to stay with the family? Zlatni Bol Apartments.
Last but not least - where do you take your “trendy teens”? According to the Telegraph, you take them to Hvar. While the island is known for welcoming everyone from A-List celebrities to party-hungry (and sloppy) 18-year-olds, don’t let the kids enjoy Hula Hula Beach Club too much - there are plenty of kayaks to ride, boats to sail, and scuba diving to be had! Where to stay? Pharos Hvar Bayhill Hotel is a family favorite.
