Connecting Croatia: Qatar Strengthens Doha Zagreb Route

By 5 January 2016

More good news for long haul travellers to Croatia.

The rapid rise in incoming tourism to Croatia from Asia has led to the establishment of direct intercontinental flights in recent years, with Qatar Airways the pioneer, and the luxury airline, which initiated flights to Zagreb from Doha via Budapest in May 2012, has announced a further strengthening of the route, reports Aerocroatia on January 4, 2016.

The initial route via Budapest soon gave way to a direct service between the two capitals, a route which went daily last year. Due to strong demand, Qatar will be adding three more flights a week between Zagreb and Doha from April 3 (see timetable below). With more than 140 global connections, the additional flights will provide more options for tourists from Asia, which is becoming an increasingly important source of incoming tourism for Croatia, with significant growth in recent years from Japan, China and particularly South Korea.

So strong is the appeal of Croatia in Seoul (Korean tourists to Croatia have increased from 16,000 to 400,000 since 2010) that Korean Air also recently announced the first direct commercial link between Korea and Croatia, as previously reported by Total Croatia News
