Great news for Rijeka, which is gearing up of course to be the European City of Culture for 2020. ExYuAviation reports that Rijeka Airport, which is located on the island of Krk, is in negotiations with a European airline, believed to be Eurowings, to open a base at the island airport from 2019. Croatia's Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Minister has said this will be preceeded with a 2.6 million euro investment in the airport. The Eurowings rumour was given credence earlier this year when Tourism Minister Cappelli said:

"If Rijeka offers agreeable terms, it will become a Eurowings base." Read the full story here.

More good news for Brac, as another direct European flight to Croatia's tallest island has been announced. Skywork will offer a weekly Saturday service from Bern to Zadar and on to Brac before returning to Switzerland. The flights will run from May 5 to October 13 - more info on Avioradar.

A new airline for Split, as Brussels Airlines will be offering a twice-weekly service from the Belgian capital, which will run from April 28 to October 6.
