Sailing in Croatia: Book Your Spot for the 6th Hanse Cup Adriatic 2018!

By 18 January 2018

From the 21st – 25th April 2018, the 6th edition of the Hanse Cup Adriatic will take place, this year the route ventures north to explore the stunning views of the Šibenik Archipelago. This is hands-down, the best way to experience sailing in Croatia at a fraction of the price!

For the sixth year running, Croatia Yachting in association with Sailing Club Zenta are organising the Hanse Cup Adriatic which will be held from the 21st – 25th April 2018. Every year this regatta seems to get bigger and better and 2018 is no exception, with more than 30 Hanse Yachts expected to participate in this year’s regatta.

Another exciting element of the regatta is that for the first time, the sailing route will venture North, towards the stunning Šibenik Archipelago. Most people know for the central and southern Dalmatia route but more and more, we are falling in love with the Northern route. Šibenik itself, is definitely one of the most underrated destinations, learn more about Šibenik here with our 25 things to know series.

The regatta is open to all owners and enthusiasts of Hanse Yachts; owners can enter and race on their own yachts and everyone else can choose from a full range of Hanse Yachts from the Croatia Yachting Charter Fleet – from the Hanse 315 to the Hanse 588. Hanse yachts are already renowned worldwide as exceptional sailing yachts, with easy-handling (which makes them perfect for charter); so, the vision of the regatta is to show off these beauties to their full potential, while also promoting Croatia as a top sailing destination.

The atmosphere of the regatta is also one of comradery with an element of friendly competition (I say friendly in the loosest way possible because let’s face it – there is always a competitive element when it comes to a regatta). Many participants and owners return year after year to compete but also as a way to catch up with old friends.

Most participants crew and skipper their yachts but, if people want an experienced skipper with them (who perhaps has a slight edge in competition), Croatia Yachting can help provide a skipper. This is a good option for those who want to be a part of a regatta without having racing experience.

While sailing is the aim of the game, the Hanse Cup Adriatic also prides itself on organising a brilliant itinerary – sailing and entertainment walking hand-in-hand. In each port, participants will arrive to welcome drinks and snacks and, every night participants will be delighted by dinner, drinks and entertainment in some of the Adriatic’s highlight locations and venues – ‘sail hard, play hard’.

Considering Croatia Yachting won the “Charter Company of the Year” for 2017, you can trust that you are in great hands.

Another standout feature of this regatta is the price-point, besides fantastic sailing conditions that are normally present in April, sailing enthusiasts (who don’t own their own yacht) have the opportunity to charter exceptional Hanse sailing yachts at a fraction of the price. Prices for the regatta range from €781 for the Hanse 315 up to €2545 for the Hanse 575 – which, just to put it into perspective, the Hanse 575 can charter for upwards of €9,000 for 7-days in peak season. Not to mention, you are in the company of a wonderful mix of people with your evenings organised for you! Oh, and I forgot – no crowds to battle with (besides the 30 boats in the regatta)!

No crowds! Some brave souls even took the opportuinity to swim!

Lastly, no regatta is complete without a winner and prize ceremony. All participating yachts are divided into six different groups depending on their size, each group will be judged and awarded a prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as well as an award for the overall regatta winners for the first three places.
