Think you have a winning idea on your hands? Send your suggestions to the NP to win tickets and a boat ride on the new ship
Mljet National Park is about to get a new feature - an electric catamaran for visitor transport. The new modern ship is the first of the three that will be delivered to the Public Institute of Mljet National Park during 2018 and 2019, reports Pokret Otoka.
The solar-powered cat is 15 metres long and has a capacity of 52 passengers. Its solar panels will charge the batteries in daytime and provide enough energy for 7 hours of uninterrupted service, enough for a whole day of operation.
This eco ship will be sailing around the Great Lake, one of Mljet National Park's leading natural attractions. It won't have any kind of negative effects on the flora and fauna of Mljet's renowned lakes - truly a perfect addition to this protected natural gem visited by more than 140.000 people each year.
This latest acquisition is the result of a joint project of Mljet National Park, the Ministry of Environment Protection and Energy, UNDP, and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, conceived with a wish to reduce carbon emission and prevent adverse impacts on the local ecosystem.
One more thing before we go: NP Mljet launched an online contest to name the new catamaran. In case you want to participate, you can send your suggestion(s) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or message them on Facebook.
