July 12, 2018 — The success of Croatia's football team is gaining some unexpected attention, with glossy fashion publication Vogue offering an itinerary to the increasingly-popular city.
Zagreb continues to steal the spotlight from Dalmatia coast, this time earning a substantial write-up in Vogue.
The renowned fashion publication suggests the picturesque Split and Dubrovnik may hog the glory but Zagreb has much more to offer.
“It’s never been a more prime time to visit the city,” writes the mag’s writer Katarina Kovac, who has family in Zagreb, making note that Croatia’s unexpected World Cup run make it a perfect time to visit.
The Croatian capital is experiencing a boom of sorts, as its tourism efforts have paid dividends. The city’s tourism board aimed to give visitors a smattering of events, sites and institutions that also benefit the locals.
Statistics suggest Zagreb’s push is paying dividends, as the city's total number of arrivals and overnight stays eclipsed the national rate.
It’s all gaining the attention of international press, which began noticing Zagreb after the success off Advent. Vogue is just the latest to enter the mix, throwing together an eclectic itinerary that reflects the city’s efforts.
The article lists of where to stay and what to eat run the gamut of tried and true (Hotel Esplanade) to relatively new (A Most Unusual Garden).
Yet its the list of what to do betrays a like for the old classics: Zrinjevac Park, King Tomislav Square, and St. Mark’s. Not exactly new offerings.
This isn’t new territory for the Croatian capital, which was featured in a remarkably positive review in Time Out last fall.
