Marina Punat on the Island of Krk offers a unique holidaying option.
You want to gently rock on the water, but you do not have a yacht or know anything about sailing? In Amsterdam, Copenhagen and many other northern cities, people often choose anchored boats designed as comfortable houses even as their permanent residences. Croatia now also offers an opportunity to try living on the water.
The Punat Marina on the island of Krk has a floating apartment-boat, moored at the C3 pier, so it is possible to experience the nautical charms even without sailing. You can enjoy the best of both worlds: the comfort of your home and the rocking of the sea.
The marina proudly points out all the advantages of this beautiful novelty. “The apartment is registered as a vessel, it is easily reachable and is connected to our water, sewerage and electricity networks, equipped with TV-sets and a free WiFi. It has two bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room and a living room with a sofa bed, a bathroom and a spacious terrace. The living area has 32 square metres and can accommodate between four and six people. In the immediate vicinity, there is a short-term stopping zone where guests can unload their luggage using our carts. Parking is provided in the marina, at one of the parking places, free of charge, and for guests arriving by airplane at the Rijeka Airport we organised free transport to the marina,” says Iris Leleković from the Punat Marina.
Fresh groceries and drinks are available at a nearby shop, while the centre of Punat is just a five-minute bicycle ride away. Bikes are available for guests to rent at the marina. For those who do not want to cook during their holiday, there is an excellent a la carte Marina restaurant, as well as the “9 Bofora” bistro and pizzeria with an excellent offer of fast food. Guests can sunbathe on a large roof terrace, use the pool and spa of the Kanajt Hotel, as well as a fitness studio just a few hundred meters away.
There is a small dinghy available for transporting guests to swimming areas, and a small outboard engine. If someone wants to go to the beach, there is organized transportation to the Medane beach club. The full season price (30 June to 1 September) is 280 euro a day, with an additional 8 euro payable for a pet.
“Floating Holiday Home is a trial project and we do not have comparative data or enough user experience to be able to predict the profitability and plan for possible expansion, but it has certainly provoked a great deal of interest. Floating homes can be produced relatively quickly and we will make a decision at the end of this first season when we have more parameters to make the right decision. We are now satisfied with the bookings, and the reactions from the existing marine guests and visitors are very positive. Marina is just about to complete its development and construction master plan. We have sent a request to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to extend the concession area and the concession period. There is a large investment cycle ahead of us that will take place over the next ten years. This winter, we expect to construct new sanitary facilities with bathrooms, as well as to reconstruct the existing facilities in the northern part of the marina. We are in the process of making decisions on new investments for the 2018/2019 winter; the restaurant will be reconstructed this or the following winter at the latest,” said Renata Marević, the managing director of the marina.
