Photo Shot from Croatian Beach Wins Over Reddit

By 26 August 2018

How many colours of the sea do you see?

“I have counted at least eight layers of colours in the sea filmed from a beach in Croatia,” wrote the Reddit user Boing333 next to the photo which, in just a few hours, became one of the most popular ones on the website, reports Index.hr on August 26, 2018.

Eight hours after it was posted, it remained the fifth most popular photo of the day.

One of the reasons why the photo shot from the Zlatni Rat beach on the island of Brač was so interesting is the debate which soon followed. Not all people saw eight colours in the photo; some say they see fewer colours, while others claim there are at least 12 different colours and shades and not just eight.

One user decided to study the photo in detail and came up with a stunning conclusion. “I have loaded the photo into a colour spectrum analysis software (I work at a school's art department) and it identified 1,176 different shades of the sea,” he wrote.

“That is unbelievable. I should change the title of my post then,” replied Boing333, who apparently lives in Florida.

As is usually the case in internet debates, the discussion soon moved away from the photos and moved to whether Croatia is worth visiting.

“I have heard that Croatia is really beautiful, but I think I heard that one of the former Yugoslav states is still struggling with mines and you have to be careful when you go hiking there? Is that Croatia?” one American asked.

A respondent explained that the mine-endangered areas are clearly marked, while others said that the country in question is more likely to be Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Some wondered whether Boing333 would recommend Croatia as a honeymoon destination for them. “The advantage is that it is beautiful, but the disadvantage is large crowds in popular destinations,” he wrote.
