On Thursday, Zagreb Airport welcomed their 3 millionth passenger this year, which came 34 days earlier than last year.
In 2017, Zagreb Airport recorded its 3-millionth passenger for the first time in history. One year later, the airport has done it again, although a bit earlier than in 2017, reports T.portal on November 15, 2018.
The lucky 3-millionth passenger was Jesus Romero from Seville, who was given a 200 euro gift card and a return ticket to a European destination of his choice, which was hand delivered by Zagreb Airport commercial and marketing director Laurent Tiaffay and director of sales and marketing of Croatia Airlines, Boris Kolka. Romero was the on the Croatia Airlines flight from Zagreb to Paris.
Tiaffay expressed satisfaction with the growth of results in all segments, i.e. passenger traffic, the number of airlines and new destinations.
"By expanding the network of destinations from Zagreb, Croatia Airlines has also made a significant contribution to the growth of traffic," Tiaffay said.
Kolka announced that the Croatian airline expects their 2-millionth passenger this year by the beginning of next week.
Zagreb Airport points out that since the beginning of the year, there has been a continuous increase in the number of passengers. In the first ten months, the cumulative growth of passenger numbers was 8%, and the growth continued in the first half of November.
"The recorded growth also directly affected the significantly earlier registration of the 3-millionth passenger in 2018, which came 34 days earlier than last year. Zagreb international airport has recorded positive traffic growth rates for 19 months, and a cumulative growth of 8% is expected by the end of the year, which is about 3.35 million passengers,” added the airport.
Over the past five years, or from the beginning of the concession period, cooperation has been established with 15 new airlines and 20 new lines have been launched, of which 10 continue throughout the year.
With the opening of the new passenger terminal, significant traffic advances have been made in establishing long-haul flights, and with the arrival of Emirates, Air Transat, Air Canada Rouge and Korean Air, Zagreb is directly connected with some of the world's major traffic centers such as Dubai, Toronto, Montreal and Seoul.
Zagreb Airport also emphasizes Croatia Airline’s significant contribution to the growth of traffic, which has opened seven new seasonal and three year-round lines for Prague, St. Petersburg, Milan, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Bucharest, Lisbon and Mostar in the past three years.
"Significant advances in the increase in the number of flights and destinations at Zagreb Airport have a positive impact on the positioning of Zagreb as a tourist destination, and directly supports the concept of Croatia 365, or extending the tourist season throughout the year,” the airport concluded.
