1.If you think you have some serious parking skills, it’s time to burst your bubble. Welcome to Dubrovnik, No Car Land!
The chances of finding a parking place next to the Old Town are very slim and sometimes it feels like your chances of winning the lottery are more realistic. If you find yourself stuck in a traffic with a bus full of Japanese tourists in front of you, a Russian couple in a private car behind you and a bunch of Koreans walking with their selfie sticks next to you, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
2.You joined your tour group this morning and you spotted a charming little restaurant you would like to visit later.
A common mistake is to think “oh, this place is nice, I’ll find it later, it’s located in that small street” - but the right thing to do is to write down the name of the street immediately and find it later using your maps. Bear in mind that all the streets look the same after two or three glasses of wine from Pelješac.
3.You started your diet back home and you thought you would continue with your strict rules in Dubrovnik… WRONG.
With restaurants and bars tucked away in every corner of the Old Town, serving mind-blowing food and competing with each other, you suddenly become part of their game while you’re looking for the most innovative recipe that will seduce your taste buds. Bye bye diet, hello there, shrimps! And octopus. And chocolate cake. Oh, is that a new ice cream place? We must try it. Now.
4.You didn’t think there were so many islands around Dubrovnik, did you?
Plan your trip carefully, try to get as much as information as you can and make sure you visit at least two islands during your trip.
5.”Wow, the Croatian language seems interesting, I am sure I can be fluent in two weeks!”
We don’t want to discourage you, but you might need more than… hmm maybe even two years, to gain Croatian language fluency. Croatian is a notoriously hard language with all those little grammar joys, such as the cases causing changes of nouns and verbs in sentences. Still looking forward to it?
Did you know the first postcard from Istria was sent in 1869?
