While celebrating its 5th anniversary in Varaždin, Jakov Vetma, the Klis mayor was voted to become the new chairman of the association, informs Dalmacija News.
The Croatian Association of Historical Cities was founded in 2011 to promote the interests of the cities with a rich cultural and historical heritage.
The association consists of 20 cities and municipalities, 5 from the continental Croatia and 15 from the Adriatic. The host of this year´s gathering, the Varaždin Mayor Goran Habuš said, that both positive and negative stories and practices are being shared when mayors meet.
"I, as the Mayor of Varaždin, am interested to not have everything happen in Dubrovnik. Let´s have the meetings get out of Dalmatia, that is why I invited everyone to Varaždin. My suggestion is keep this goal in the future and to have all 20 of us get the opportunity to organize such a meeting, as well as international events organized by the association," said the mayor of Varaždin.
Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism were present at the Ceremonial Meeting and the possibilities of using national and European funds were discussed. After a gala dinner for the guests from the Croatian Historical Cities, a workshop on measures to preserve the rich historical heritage used in Varaždin was held the day after for all participants.
The Croatian Association of Historical Cities is an associate member of the European Association of Historical Towns and Regions.
