In Vrgorac: A Day of Dalmatian Ham & Wine

By 29 June 2016

The first "Days of Dalmatian Smoked Ham and Wine" was held over the weekend in the country paths next to Vrgorac. The event took place over 3 days, with domestic prosciutto and wines from around Croatia.

The Dalmatian prosciutto and wines came wholly from domestic producers, enjoyed by visitors from the Makarska Riviera, the hinterland, and Herzegovina, including many tourists.

Visitors had the option to try various Dalmatian and Istrian prosciuttos, enjoying the different flavors while understanding the difference between Istrian prosciutto which is more like Italian and Spanish ham, and Dalmatian which is more dried and smoked.

The winemakers in attendance were joined by colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina, offering up a Žilavka and several similar white wines.

The Director of the Vrgorac Tourist Board, Zeljko Opačak, enjoyed the event so much he promised a more extensive one for next year, hoping to bring in tourist agencies for the offer as well.
