On the occasion of the feast of St. Michael, patron of the city of Trilj, the Trilj Museum is organizing an exhibition titled 'Two Decades’ (‘Dva desetljeća) revealing the archaeological excavations of the Roman legion camp Tilurium from 1997-2016.
This year, Trilj marked the 20th anniversary from the beginning of the systematic archaeological excavations of the Roman military camp Tilurium in the village Gardun.
The Museum of Trilj, in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts, and University of Zagreb, decided to mark this important anniversary with a commemorative photo exhibition.
The Roman legionary camp Tilurium is settled on the northeastern part of a plateau above Trilj, on the right bank of the river Cetina. It is one of the most important military hubs in the Roman province of Dalmatia – encampment of the 7th Roman legion (legio VII. Claudia pia fidelis). It covers around 12 hectares, and today the ancient settlement is covered with central part of the village Gardun which is right above Trilj. You can read about TCN’s visit to Tilurium here.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held on Monday, September 19 at 19.30. The exhibition will be open weekdays from 8h to 16h and on Saturdays from 8.30h to 12h.
