First Split, Dubrovnik and Pula, and now easyJet to Zadar?

By 6 October 2016

A delegation from easyJet inspects Zadar Airport on October 5, 2016, ahead of a possible entry into its fourth Croatian coastal airport.

With airport terminal expansion planned or ongoing in Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Split, Croatia's airports are working hard to meet the demand of the record arrivals in the country, which is good news as the airlines are showing no sign of slowing down their expansion plans into the Croatian market.

The most active of the low-cost airlines, carrying over 650,000 passengers last year, has been easyJet, which expanded its operations beyond Split and Dubrovnik to Pula, offering more than 30 scheduled routes to and from Croatia in 2016.

A number that looks set to rise, for the team from easyJet were in Zadar earlier this week, inspecting the airport which is Ryainair's base in Croatia, and into which easyJet has never flown. According to local reports, easyJet could begin its Zadar operation as early as next year, which would be a significant boost for the former Dalmatian capital, which has seen a boom in tourism in recent years thanks to the increased traffic. It was also voted Best European Destination in 2016 by website Best European Destinations.

With Ryanair in advanced discussions to provide a 12-month service to Dubrovnik, and easyJet's interest in Croatia only increasing, those airport terminal expansions cannot come soon enough.
