The project will be partly financed with EU funds.
A total of 2.32 million kuna were granted from European funds to the Municipality of Tar-Vabriga in Istria to begin the realisation of the project of an olive oil eco-museum which will be located in an old castle in the centre of the town, reports Glas Istre on November 5, 2017.
The funds obtained will be invested in the preparation of project documentation, which will cost 3.71 million kuna in total. The co-financing has been approved by the European structural and investment fund, in the “Preparation and implementation of integrated development programmes based on cultural heritage reconstruction” category, which is part of the operational programme “Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020”.
The co-financing with 2.3 million kuna was the highest possible amount to be received for a project of this size. The implementation has just begun, and it is expected to conclude in September 2018. Mayor of Municipality of Tar-Vabriga Nivio Stojnić recently signed a co-financing agreement with the government. The municipality will lead the project, while the governing body will be the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union funds.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Gabrijela Žalac, Minister of Science and Education Blaženka Divjak, and Director of the Central Finance and Contracting Agency Tomislav Petrić.
“We are delighted to have received such significant funds. We have been working on this project for ten years now. This is just the first phase which includes the project documentation preparation for the reconstruction of the castle and the eco-museum, and also includes the drafting of architectural and interpretation documentation, together with a musicological programme. All these activities, in addition to those on project promotion, constitute an initiative whose realisation, through the valorisation of cultural heritage, will contribute to the community’s sustainable socio-economic development. At the same time, we will also be preparing our application for the next call for support from EU funds, when we will seek co-financing for the castle reconstruction itself, which will require at least three million euros,” said Mayor Stojnić.
