Antena Zagreb Musical Satire Addresses Piran Bay Border Dispute

By 7 January 2018

An amusing take on the tense situation between Croatia and Slovenia from the popular Antena Zagreb.

It's easy to take things too seriously, we're all guilty of it, especially in the case of the increasingly uncomfortable relations with Slovenia following the arbitration decision and Croatia's refusal to implement it.

Despite threats from neighbouring Slovenia, Croatia is yet to recognise or implement the arbitration decision and continues on as if nothing ever happened, with police often accompanying Croatian fishermen trying to do their jobs in Piran Bay who have had their lives severely negatively impacted by the situation. Slovenia's Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec has threatened Croatia with further legal proceedings should the artibration decision continue going on being ignored by the government.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has responsed in his typical style with threats to punish Slovenian fishermen too. And so the eternal border dance of this part of Europe continues, much to the disdain of the EU, with all the yellow stars face-palming in sync.

While most of us go on taking this situation seriously and worrying about potential outcomes, with one MEP rather unhelpfully suggesting to ''call in the army'', one person has decided to treat it much more lightly...

If you follow Croatian radio at all, you will most likely have heard of Luka Bulić and his now iconic songs. He has graced us with a brand new one about the tense Croatian-Slovenian relations in regard to the ongoing border dispute. If you understand Croatian, have a listen to his comedic, musical approach below with his latest hit, Savudrija (Ribari/Fishermen):
