Hermitage in Zagreb: Exhibition on Catherine the Great to Open in Klović Gallery

Zagreb will soon host a selection of works from the world-renowned Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg

Klovićevi Dvori Gallery in Zagreb's Upper Town have just closed their spectacular exhibition of Vlaho Bukovac's works, but they're not about to slow down anytime soon. The gallery has announced their upcoming exhibition which is sure to attract tens of thousands of visitors in the following several months: Catherine the Great - Empress of All Russians.

This phenomenal project was conceived to mark the 50th anniversary of Zagreb and St Petersburg becoming twin towns. Klovićevi Dvori will host a large exhibition of works from one of the most renowned museums in the world, the Hermitage Museum from St Petersburg.

The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most powerful women in history, the empress Catherine II (1729-1796). Curators of the Hermitage and Klovićevi Dvori have united to create a display that will present this exceptional period of Russia's history, featuring the empress's personal belongings and artwork she had passionately collected during her lifetime, giving way to formation of the outstanding Hermitage collection.

More than 1000 exhibits will be displayed on two floors of Klovićevi Dvori, telling a story about Catherine's life and rule, the royal family and the Russian court, the empress's crucial role in education in the Age of Enlightenment, and above all - her love for art.

Catherine the Great - Empress of All Russians will be a unique artistic event in the Croatian capital, but also in the country as a whole and the wider region. The exhibition will open on April 12 and remain on display until July 29, 2018.
